      About this trip

The 2022 Holiday trip features the two star attractions of a visit to Asheville during December.

The first experience is a day immersing yourself into the time honored tradition of Christmas at Biltmore.   No other residence in America offers a more authentic, original, and inspiring view of life during the Guided Age at Christmas than the Biltmore House.  George Vanderbilt first welcomed guests to Biltmore Estate on Christmas Eve in 1895 and today his legacy and love of entertaining are shared with you in a self-guided audio tour hosted by Estate Curators.    During the day, there will also be time to visit the Conservatory bedecked with hundreds of blooming poinsettias and Antler Hill Village & Winery.

Later in the day, we enjoy a visit to one of the most iconic Historic Hotels of American, The Omni Grove Park Inn, for dinner and the 30th National Gingerbread House Competition.  Following dinner, a stroll through the hotel celebrates the design, innovation and tradition of this amazing competition.  Each year contestants travel from 30 states and Canada and spend more than 500 hours constructing their entries.  Last year the 2nd placed winner was from Cary, NC!

One last Asheville experience is offered on our departure morning with a stop at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Established in 1895, the Center is nationally recognized as the oldest craft shop in America. Explore artisan-made jewelry, textiles, pottery, glass, and much more, crafted by the members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, over 400 artists and craftspeople of Southern Appalachia.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Patty was extremely well organized and she thought of everything.! The mansion was spectacular, as was the gardens and the Chihuly exhibit. Asheville has that art vibe and Patty gave us restaurant suggestions weeks before the trip so we could get reservations. My only observation would be that it wasn’t long enough! To be traveling all day, have dinner and a day of sightseeing, then be back on the bus at 8:30 the next am was a bit too short for me. That said, I’ll definitely be going on future trips with Patty

As always Patti outdid herself in planning and executing this trip. The gardens were beautiful, the weather was perfect and the history was enlightening. The boat trip topped it all off. What can I say? I’m totally in love with “Trips by Patti”.

The trip was organized perfectly. The bus was very comfortable, the driver capable and courteous, we made enough stops to get out and stretch. Patty arranged for a very nice welcome dinner, and made great suggestions for places to eat when we were dining on or own. Great people, great trip. I would recommend this company without hesitation. Thank you very much Patty!
