Founded soon after the Norman conquest of Ireland , the castle has been rebuilt, extended and adapted o suit changing circumstances and uses over the period of 800 years. It is surrounded by beautiful parklands, and the town is a quaint town with cobbled, narrow streets and lovely small craft shops.
