About this trip

On this circular route, you’ll walk from the charming little coastal village of Sant Elm to La Trapa Monastery. The highlights are the spectacular views of The Dragon Island - just offshore on the southwest part of Mallorca, the 400-year-old “Torre de Cala ses Bassets” Watchtower, and the ruins of Sa Trapa Monastery.

Your journey begins in the charming coastal village of Sant Elm, located on the southwestern coast of Mallorca. This village offers stunning views of the sea and the nearby Dragonera Island.

As you leave Sant Elm behind, the trail begins to ascend into the hills that characterize much of Mallorca's interior. The terrain may vary from rocky paths to more forested sections, providing a diverse and engaging hiking experience. Be prepared for some uphill sections, but the views you'll encounter make the effort worthwhile.  Throughout the hike, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the coastline, with the sparkling Mediterranean stretching out before you. Take plenty of breaks to soak in the scenery and capture some photos to remember the experience.   After a few hours of hiking, you'll finally reach La Trapa Monastery, a remote and peaceful sanctuary nestled in the hills. This monastery, founded in the 19th century, offers a fascinating glimpse into Mallorca's religious history. Take some time to explore the monastery grounds, including its chapel and surrounding gardens.  The hike back to Sant Elm follows the same trail you took to reach La Trapa, but with the added bonus of different perspectives on the landscape. Take your time on the descent, as some sections may be steep or rocky.  As you return to Sant Elm, take a moment to reflect on the beauty and serenity of Mallorca's countryside. You've completed a challenging yet immensely rewarding hike, and now it's time to relax and unwind in the village, perhaps treating yourself to a well-deserved meal at one of Sant Elm's restaurants.

Overall, the hike from Sant Elm to La Trapa Monastery offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural interest, and physical activity, making it a must-do excursion for any visitor to Mallorca.
