About this trip

Join us for our unique and carefully designed retreat to connect with horses, nature and your inner strength. This retreat combines the daily practice of yoga and the study of Classical Horsemanship in order to improve your riding, biomechanical understanding and connect to the spirit of the horse. Be present and in the now. Breath in the fresh air and peace of our cosy mountain farm. Practice mindfulness and go in contact with yourself through your equine partner and while just being. Feel yourself and your horse moving together in harmony and during your yoga class. Soak in the life and peace of our jungle surroundings.

Start your day with a yoga class held by a professional and strong yogi who will guide you through your class in flow and with ease. Yoga helps you to improve your strength and balance, mental as well as physical. After a hearty breakfast including fresh and local ingredients you will receive a lesson in classical horsemanship and can take a seat next to the arena to observe the other riders. Classical Horsemanship is based on the teachings of the old masters of the European riding academies and aims to ride the horse in perfect balance with lightness. We will get a better understanding of how the horse's body works and what is essential for the horse's body. When improving the well being of the horse's physics the overall wellbeing of the horse will improve as well, just like us after a great yoga class. Within this retreat we have it all, wellbeing for horses and people. After your horse class you can stay with the herd on our stunning mountain pasture, take time to just be and breath.  The afternoons include a mix of activities making every day special and different. After a healthy and delicious dinner you will be falling asleep to the sound of the jungle.

Educational horse vacation on organic horse farm in beautiful mountain setting.

Reviews

I had an amazing time at Finca Soley. Isa & her family are fantastic hosts. The farm was more than I expected. The horses were so well taken care of and Analea, our yoga guide has a beautiful heart and warm presence. Hot springs tour was a highlight. Making butter & cheese with Milton was so much fun. It was an unexpected gift to have so many kids around and that everyone was speaking German.

If you're looking for an experience where you can rediscover the world of horses and reconnect with nature and yourself, then you've come to the right place! I had a wonderful 3-week stay doing the Horsevolonteer program with Isa and her family, who welcome you with joy and peace. I learned so much about horses, I'm delighted. I learned so much about horses, I'm so glad I did. What I learned really made me question what I knew and did with horses. And that's what I was looking for: to know how to work with your horse, in everyone's interest, with calm, patience and progress. The horses are so happy and healthy there, and that's a pleasure to see. Isa shares her passion and her daily life with you, teaching you everything you need to know so that you can make the most of your time on horseback, on the ground and in the stables. Key words: patience, determination and observation. I loved living with the herd, looking after the horses all morning, and taking time for myself in the afternoon. Isolated from the city in the mountains, you can enjoy butterflies, birds and fresh air galore. The best part is hanging out in the meadow with all the horses. Many thanks to Anna for preparing our delicious daily meals, with milk, butter, yoghurt and eggs from home. Eating fresh fruit, discovering new vegetables and acclimatizing to a mainly vegetarian diet was very refreshing for my stomach. Also, don't worry, the drinking water on site is very good indeed. Although I was a little apprehensive about staying during the rainy season in July, I was delighted, because although it rained often, it was only short showers during the day, and it mainly rains at night. The weather changes a lot, so it's often cloudy, but it doesn't make it too hot, and that was perfect. And if the rain doesn't allow us to do what we'd planned to do, it's no problem - we can adapt. You still need to budget enough if you want to get out of the farm on the WE to visit the country, because it depends on what you want to do, but some outings/tours can be a bit expensive, but it's really worth it, because Costa Rica is made up of such a wealth of plant and animal life that it would be a shame not to give yourself the means. And the people of Costa Rica are so welcoming! Thanks again to your team Isa and Milton, I hope to see you again one day.

I had a wonderful time at Finca Soley. Got to meet great volunteers and made some good friends. The food was just very fresh and Anna the cook a real sweetheart. The horses were well cared for and loved. The only reason for the one missing star was access to a more private bathroom. 😀

I spent amazing three weeks at Finca Soley. Everything was not just as described, but even better. Isa and her family and the other volunteers made me feel welcome from the first second. There is a very positive atmosphere at the finca which allows you to learn a lot about horsecare, horsemanship and riding. The horses are well trained and carefully looked after. The vegetarian food was delicious, rooms spacious and the view over the pastures amazing. Isa even organized fantastic yoga lessons for us. I recommend using their shuttle (approx. 2 hours) from the airport, at least If you arrive in the afternoon, as there are not so many busses a day going to Tucurrique. I would love to come back one day! :-)
