      About this trip

Climbing Cayambe volcano (5.790 m / 18,996 ft) is another highlight in Ecuador. It's the country's third highest mountain and the highest and only snow covered point on the Equator. The tour can include minor technical challenges and offers absolutely stunning and impressive surroundings with very active glaciers as well as breathtaking crevasses. Definitely a trip of a lifetime - join us!

Technically the climb is not very difficult, nevertheless good fitness is required and some previous glacier travel experience highly recommended.

Another very important point is proper acclimatization. To really enjoy the climb we recommend at least 4 days of preparation, including hikes in altitude and steadily increasing your sleeping altitude if possible.

Jaime was a great guide, thank you. We had a good time. We ate in the best restaurants, slept in the best lodges and down to Jaime, always seemed to get the best of the best! Essentially we were very well looked after. Jaime was also a great mountain guide, quickly appraising the abilities of our group (and individuals), being flexible in his approach to try to maximise our enjoyment, and challenge. We had a fantastic time on Pasochoa and Quilotoa. The weather defeated us on Cayambe. Unfortunately we didn’t summit Chimborazo, despite perfect conditions. Entirely down to us, a step too far at our age. It was a real shame as we had been working towards it for the whole year.

We had a great time. The advice, experience and helpfulness of Juan, our guide, was excellent. He was punctual, polite, friendly and flexible, taking into account all our want to do requests. Great time: humming birds, cloud forests, waterfalls, markets, equators, thermal baths, swing and zip wires. A good relaxing time to see a few sights and prepare for the volcanoes.

We had the perfect trip and experience with Andean Summit Adventures. We climbed on Iliniza Norte, Cayambe and Chimborazo with Jaime - the best guide in Ecuador. Jaime made the car rides fun, the meals interesting and the climbs safe and extremely enjoyable. It really stood out that he was extremely respected amongst the other guides and a real authority in the mountains. The organization team around Eilsabeth were at our help at all times (including advice for equipment and acclimatization planning which was particularly important for us as beginners). This made our Ecuadorian climbing experience as smooth as possible. The strongest recommendation for Andean Summit Adventures for your climbing experiences in Ecuador from Germany!

We hired Andean Summit Adventure for what would become a successful bid to summit Chimborazo. I highly recommend them and hope to return for an attempt at Cotopaxi. They took great care of us throughout our ascent making sure safety was a top priority. Elizabeth was very responsive and easy to talk to when we were arranging our itinerary. Our guides, Jaime and Paul, were the epitome of mountain knowledge and experience, not to mention easy-going and lighthearted. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Elisabeth and the company were very helpful. They went above and beyond to answer my endless questions not just about climbing but Ecuador in general. They accommodated special requests, we’re always courteous and fast to respond. Our guide Juan was a fun magnetic guide with a relaxed attitude and many years of climbing experience in Ecuador. After talking to other climbers about their experience I appreciated mine much more. In the end weather on Chimborazo didn’t cooperate, we got very near the top. Just means I’ll come back and use this company again. Thank you!
