From El chaupi village. We will start early in the morning after breakfast 7:00 We will be driving up to the trailhead (13,120ft/4.000m), where we start our hike. The first part of the hike takes us up through the small Andean grass. Then we will get on the sandy and scramble section, which leads to Corazon summit (15,702ft/4788m). We will have lunch during the hike that is about 6-hour long. Return to the hostel.

We will leave Quito early in the morning around 07:00 a.m. and we will drive south along the Avenue of the Volcanoes until we reach the town of El Chaupi and from here we will continue driving up to the “La Virgen parking lot” (12,795ft/3.900m). Once there, we will start a 3-hour hike up to the “Nuevos Horizontes Refuge” (15,580ft/4.750m). We will relax for the rest of the afternoon. Dinner will be served by late afternoon.

Our climbing day starts at 5 am. We will have a light breakfast, pack our climbing equipment, and leave the refuge an hour later. We will continue hiking up towards the saddle formed between both peaks and then to Illiniza Norte summit (16,818ft/ 5126 m). The approach to the top involves an easy 3-hour scramble. Once at the summit, we will enjoy and admire the beautiful surroundings. The return to the refuge will be done in about 2 hours. At the refuge we will have something to eat and drink, then we will pack our stuff and go down to the La Virgen parking lot to return to the Chaupi.

 We’ll leave from El Chaupi in the morning and will drive the Quilotoa Lagoon; during the tour we will stop at an Indian hut. After we will visit the Tigua community to observe the leather crafts that people make in these places. The tour will take us about 4 hours later, we’ll arrive the viewpoint where you can observe the magnitude of the crater and its lagoon background. We will descend along an irregular road; the walk will take us one hour until arrived bottom of the lagoon, there we will have taken photos and rest. After lunch we will back to El Chaupi in about 3 hours driving.

Cayambe is a massive glaciated extinct volcano. It is located about 70 km Northeast of Quito and is the highest point on the surface of the earth through which the Equator directly passes. Cayambe is the third highest mountain in Ecuador. It is characterized by good climbing opportunities and impressive glaciers. With easy access from the comfortable hut Ruales Oleas Cayambe Refuge.  We will start early in the morning after breakfast 8:00 We will be driving up to the refuge, once there we can rest for a couple of hours at the Refuge, until dinner time.

We will wake up at midnight, eat a light breakfast, put our gear on and start our climb around 01:00 in the morning; the ascent takes about 6 to 7 hours. The route to the summit follows a safe glacier terrain to the summit. A gaping bergschrund sometimes presents a challenge in route finding and an exciting extra obstacle. Once at the summit (18,996ft/5790 m) we will take our time for pictures of the surroundings and then we will head back to the refuge in 2 to 3 hours. At the Refuge we will rest for a while, then pack our belongings and drive to "Papallacta village.”

We will leave from Papallacta (9,186ft/2.800m) early in the morning and drive for about 3 hours through the Andean highlands until we get to Laguna Santa Lucia (14,118ft/4.300m). Depending on the road conditions, we will drive up the highest we can for another 30 or more minutes to the end of the road. Once there, we will put our backpacks on and continue for an hour up to the base camp (15,580ft/4.750m) located right below the glacier. We will use the rest of the day to relax and hang out around until dinner, which will be served by late afternoon.
