About your organizer

In 2005, Bachan Charitable Trust opened a women’s shelter in the Indian Himalayas but soon realized shelter alone wasn’t enough. Many women, especially young widows (19-25) with children, faced social prejudice and lacked sustainable income. Founder Poonam chose to empower them through skills and economic opportunities. She launched Fernweh Fair Travel, combining sustainable tourism with community upliftment—training locals as artisans, guides, and hosts while offering travelers transformative cultural experiences.
