ConConqueror: Vanquishing Writers' Conference Mistakes

In the morning, speakers will guide attendees through a pitch from largest to smallest—synopsis, query letter, in-person pitch, elevator pitch, Twitter (X) pitch. In addition to learning what they are and how to create them, attendees will learn how to choose which to use for any given situation. Discussion of the dos and don’ts of pitching, as well as how to apply pitching lessons to self-publishing.

Following a catered buffet lunch, speakers will  provide an overview of the world of writers’ conferences, including DIY cons and retreats. The suitability of any given conference is highly dependent on the author, their needs, and goals, so we will provide a comprehensive look at “if, then” situations for choosing the appropriate conference. Discussion will cover one of the most important—and most overlooked—considerations, budgeting. (Spoiler alert—you always end up spending more than you think you will.) Time will also be spent on the tips and tricks for getting the most out of any conference.
