This trip begins in New York City where the Colonial Crafts will be coupled to the rear of Amtrak's Silver Meteor. You will watch the urban skyline fade into the bustling Northeast Corridor, roll through Baltimore, Philadelphia, and cross the Potomac River before transitioning into the rolling, historic landscapes of Virginia. Keep your eyes open for glimpses of historic mid-Atlantic towns and beautiful coastal waterways.
While on the Pullman car, enjoy hors d'oeuvres, snacks, and beverages all in historic luxury with personal care by our on-board servers. Make it a year to remember with this budget friendly trip at just $250. You are able to tailor your trip however you like. Ride Amtrak one way and take the Pullman car the other; fly to New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or Richmond and meet us there to enjoy the journey through the Eastern Shore.
Once you arrive in Richmond, a wealth of historic and cultural attractions awaits. Art enthusiasts can explore the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), a top cultural destination offering free admission to its world-class permanent collections. For a deeper dive into the nation's past, visit the American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar, which serves as the main visitor center for the Richmond National Battlefield Park. You can also take a leisurely stroll down the Riverfront Canal Walk to learn about the city's oldest neighborhood, Shockoe Bottom. If you are looking for boutique shopping and diverse local dining, be sure to visit Carytown, a vibrant nine-block district famously known as Richmond's "Mile of Style".
After enjoying your time away in historic Virginia, you can return on the Colonial Crafts. With your ticket, you have access to Amtrak VIP Metropolitan Lounges along the route, such as the lounges at New York's Moynihan Train Hall and Washington, D.C.'s Union Station, prior to your journey and after you arrive.
Traveling aboard Colonial Crafts, guests will enjoy a vibrant menu inspired by the Mid-Atlantic’s diverse and flavorful culinary traditions. Snacks and lighter meals include bright, seasonal salads. Main courses may feature fresh Chesapeake crab cakes, glazed Virginia ham, and regional comfort classics. For dessert, indulge in comforting peach cobbler or signature sweets. Refresh with fresh juices as you savor these dishes, all crafted to be both delicious and convenient for elegant rail dining.

We operate a historic railcar that's available for use throughout the United States. We offer scheduled and chartered vintage railway travel experiences. The Colonial Crafts was built in 1949 for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It has four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is a shower at the end of the hall, a small kitchen, and a very large lounge area that comfortably seats 20 people during daytime travel. Your journey includes all meals and beverages served by our professional staff including a Porter, Steward, and Chef. The Pullman Company assigned this car to Elvis Presley in 1960 after he returned from military service overseas. He used the car to travel from New Jersey to Graceland, and then on to Los Angeles where he completed filming his movie, “G. I. Blues”.
