Join Prana Vinyasa yoga instructor Jackie Just on a YOGA, SURF & RAINFOREST ADVENTURE RETREAT in Costa Rica!
The retreat will be held at Tumbo De Las Olas Resort at the very tip of the Osa Peninsula in Southern Costa Rica, just outside of Corcovado National Park and considered to be the most pristine, biologically diverse part of Costa Rica. The lodge is just steps away from three world-class surf breaks, including a mellow beginner wave over a shallow, sandy bottom which is perfect for learning how to surf!
If you want to deeply connect to nature and take a healthy break from technology and the stresses of “the real world" while simultaneously deepening your yoga practice, learning how to surf and exploring the magic of the rainforest, then this is the perfect retreat for you!
Prana Vinyasa® yoga classes are breath-inspired journeys that offer a complete spectrum of rhythms from meditative and rejuvenating (lunar) to challenging and empowering (solar). The wave of a class is created through cycles of effective and creative sequences linked together through the breath. On this retreat you'll practice both lunar and solar sequences themed to the elements of nature which are accessible to all levels of yogis.
Connect with nature by embodying the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space in each Elemental Prana Vinyasa yoga practice. Our daily activities and excursions will also reflect the natural element that we are working with in our yoga classes to create a full-spectrum nature emersion on this retreat.
Cabo Matapalo is a well-kept secret surf spot in Southern Costa Rica. You'll love surfing in the warm turquoise blue waters of this pristine, un-crowded and tropical location.
There are several surf breaks within an easy walking distance from our Lodge that range from mellow, rolling whitewash over an open, sandy bay, to an intermediate point break in a big open bay and for avid surfers there are a few other faster, more challenging surf spots as well.
For beginners there are surf lessons and board rentals available, and you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll fall in love with this beautiful sport! Connect with the ocean in a whole new way and challenge yourself to some fun in the sun.
Cabo Matapalo is far from the beaten tourist path in a remote and exotic part of Costa Rica. Many years ago the area was clear-cut for farm land and over the past 30 years the vegetation has completely grown back, resulting in beautiful and exotic secondary rainforest surrounding our Lodge. Just a short hike away you'll experience the difference between secondary growth and primary rainforest as we adventure into the jungle on a waterfall hike.
For a deeper rainforest experience, Corcovado National Park is just 45 minutes away and is considered by National Geographic to be the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity. The park provides a home for more than 500 tree species and a dizzying array of Costa Rican wildlife, including the endangered Baird’s Tapir, the rare Harpy Eagle, Jaguar, Puma, and four Monkey species among many other varieties of birds, mammals and amphibians. A day trip into this National Park on an open air safari-style truck provides the adventure of a lifetime!
The heartbeat of our daily rhythm is the delicious, fresh, homemade meals prepared by our personal chef, Angelica. We'll be well fed and deeply nourished while enjoying local Costa Rican fare and Internationally-inspired dishes, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, locally-sourced meats and fish and freshly baked breads and desserts .
Special dietary needs can be catered to including vegetarian / vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, as well as allergies and dietary restrictions.
Your day begins with the sounds of the jungle and as the natural world awakens, so do you. After enjoying a light breakfast of fresh tropical fruit, coffee and tea, you connect with your mind, body and spirit in our sacred yoga space. You finish your yoga practice feeling energized, connected, centered and hungry! A big "typical" Costa Rican breakfast follows your practice and leaves you feeling nourished and ready to explore.
After breakfast you can choose your own adventure. Hike into the primary rainforest and discover waterfalls, abundant vegetation and wildlife, or grab a friend and head to the ocean for fun in the sun or a surf session. Cool off around the pool, relax in a hammock and read or journal, or enjoy a therapeutic massage.
Lunch brings us all back together to share our good vibes and nourish our bodies. The rest of the afternoon is yours to do what you choose. We come back together for a late afternoon yoga practice or workshop to ground down and drop in our evening. Dinner is another delicious meal and a time to come together as a community and share our day's stories. Today was a beautiful day in paradise. Tomorrow you'll do it all over again.
