About this trip

Cotopaxi National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Cotopaxi) is a protected area in Ecuador situated in the Cotopaxi, Napo and Pichincha Provinces, roughly 50 km south of Quito.

Due to its perfectly symmetrical cone,  covered in a thick blanket of snow and ice, the Cotopaxi is one of the  tourist highlights in Ecuador and it’s most visited and climbed volcano.  The Cotopaxi National Park is situated in a beautiful paramo plateau,  where wild horses graze on the extensive plains at the foot of the  volcano or gather to drink at the lovely Limpiopungo lagoon, which  reflects the white peaks of nearby Volcan Rumiñahui and makes a great  spot for watching waterfowl and other birds.

Walking in the National Park, you will  notice pumice, ash, stone and other volcanic debris amid the tiny  páramos plants. On a day trip to the Cotopaxi National Park it is  possible to drive as high as 4500m, then trek up a sandy scree slope to  reach the snout of the glacier at 5000m.

Prepare to hike, and smile.  Trekking for all ages

then off to Papallacta hot springs!

The trip was good, our guide was brilliant, knew his stuff and was well organised. The biking left a lot to be desired in my opinion, it was just biking down the gravel road you drive along, it’s not a proper mountain bike experience, but fine.

We had a great time in the jungle. The Tucan lodge is a very nice place, the food was really nice, but most importantly, thanks to our fantastic guide Carlos we discovered a lot of animals and plants in the jungle! 5 days we'll never forget. Absolutely worth it! Eva and Ward from Belgium

It was a wonderful trip. Angelica is z family run boat with 16 guests max. Maria the guide is wonderful with so much information and passion for the Galapagos. We saw and learnt so much about the animals. Snorkeling was wonderful. The food, snacks, comfort and everything about the boat was wonderful including all the helpful good humoured crew. What a great trip! Estuardo (Stui) was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. His enthusiasm is contagious., and he let our physical abilities control the pace. Our driver, Vincente, was also a pro. This is a must-do trip if you are in Quito. Between the amazing views, climbing and great guide, would definitely give the Cotopaxi trip 5 stars.
