We depart Hanoi early and head to Tho Ha—famed for its traditional rice paper production. Here, you’ll photograph the delicate process of making rice paper, and daily life among the ubiquitous bamboo drying racks. We then continue on to Cao Bang City, where the ever-changing rural landscapes provide plenty of visual stories along the way.

Today, we dive into Cao Bang’s rich artisan heritage, as perfected by the local Nung tribal minority. Our first stop is an incense village, where craftsmen and women create aromatic incense using time-honored techniques. Next, we visit a knife-making village, the heat of the forge and skilled blacksmiths offering dramatic, energetic imagery. Our final stop is a remote ceramic tile-making village, and we’ll be able to photograph buffalo churning the clay in the ground, plus potters refining the tiles before firing in enormous kilns.

In the morning, we explore a paper votive village, where you’ll document the soulful process of crafting delicate paper offerings steeped in tradition. This intimate cultural encounter is an excellent opportunity for close-up and portrait photography. After a satisfying immersion, we embark on a scenic drive to Ba Be Lake. Here, you’ll be inspired by the expansive, serene waters and dramatic mountain backdrops—ideal for both lens and drone photography.

Rise early with us at Ba Be Lake to capture the magic of sunrise. Focus on the fishermen as they gather their nets, and work with our local friend to create environmental portraits with the misty mountains and shimmering lake in the background. The soft, early light creates a dreamy atmosphere, setting the stage for stunning images. In the afternoon, we make our way back to Hanoi, giving you time to review and savor the captivating images you’ve captured throughout the morning.

Our final day takes us to Hung Yen, where we visit craft villages known for soy bean processing and bronze casting. Here, you’ll witness and photograph the intricate, hands-on processes of local artisans at work. This day offers dynamic action shots and detailed close-ups, providing a powerful finale to your photographic journey that highlights Vietnam’s enduring cultural traditions.
