In our talk, we will examine artifacts and practices in San Francisco Chinatown when it is time to enjoy all of the New Year festivities.

Taiwan has a large number of Buddhists, Taoists and folk religion followers which has made visiting local neighborhood temples a popular activity during holidays, especially during Chinese New Year. Here we will explore the importance of these temples, learn about some of the temple festivities, and have an understanding about the significance according to the locals of visiting during the Chinese New Year.
Born and raised in Colorado, Joe spoken mostly English until he started to study Chinese Language and International Affair in college. He is now fluent in Mandarin and has relocated to Taiwan where he manages most of Real China's Taiwan trips. Nick is a cross-cultural communication expert and enjoys learning via travel. He founded Real China and since then has been leading numerous faculty-led study trips for schools and colleges across the US.
Taiwan is a world leader on pro-environment policy and their famous ‘trash-doesn’t-touch-the-ground’ system. Joe Lucero will explain how their recycling system makes individuals responsible. A new waste management culture has been immersed into people‘s everyday life.
