This 6-day small group tour of Costa Rica is designed to make you experience two diverse and non-touristy destinations of this wonderful country. First, you will visit the Dota region and stay in the lovely Tami Lodge. Visit coffee plantations, enjoy beautiful landscapes, meet rural communities and go on a bird-watching excursion in search for the stunning quetzal.
After an incredible journey in a 4WD vehicle through the less travelled roads of Costa Rica, you will arrive to Los Campesinos Lodge, a community-run project in the mountains near the Pacific coast, where you will experience authentic culture, hike in rural ecosystems and taste local food.
The tour starts in San José on December 15th and finishes in Manuel Antonio beach on December 20th. We can assist you with travel arrangements in these and other destinations across Costa Rica.

Mid-morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in San José to start a 2.5-hour journey to the beautiful Tami Lodge in the region of Dota. The next 3 nights will be spent deep in the cloud forest surrounded by nature but with access to all your basic needs and amenities. Experience Tami Lodge’s unique luxury tented camp with spectacular views of the Los Santos Region. The lodge has 10 tents distributed onto 6 bungalows, 4 doubles and 2 singles. Every tent has its own private bathroom with hot running water. The showers are unique as they mimic waterfalls flowing over natural rock and the views are spectacular as the windows open up to the cloud forest and the valley. After time for lunch, enjoy a visit to the Green Communities Experimental farm, where we will give you presentation of the process and production of organic coffee. Afterwards we will head to the Coffee Mill to see the complete process surrounded by local employees and farmers. Next, we will visit our organic farm and enjoy a coffee tasting session. Free evening back to the lodge.
Wake up early and go on a Quetzal watching tour that lasts around three hours. Go in search of the resplendent Quetzal with its iridescent green feathers, its long, graceful tail and right red breast! Free rest of the day. Several optional activities available: hiking, farm tours, adventure park (canopy, zip lining, rappel, etc).
Relax in Tami Lodge.
After breakfast, experience the little travelled back roads of Costa Rica as you travel by 4×4 from the mountains of the Los Santos region all the way to the Pacific region of Costa Rica. This 4-hour incredible journey will have you crossing mountain passes and flowing rivers, allowing you to experience the full range of ecological regions that Costa Rica has to offer. Arrive to Los Campesinos Ecolodge, a community-run lodge offering great rural activities. Free afternoon and evening.
After breakfast, Don Miguel will be waiting to take us on a walking tour of the farm “Mirador Perla del Pacífico”, 2km away from the lodge. After the tour, we will eat lunch in a cosy dining room with spectacular views of a waterfall in the middle of the forest. In the afternoon, Don Miguel will take us to his medicinal garden and teach you about the plants and their uses. Next he will show you his sugar mill, where you can drink a glass of juice. This excursion is not over until you have walked through the trail that leads to the waterfall where you can swim. Back at the lodge, walk around Quebrada Arroyo town and get acquainted with the school, football field, and the little grocery store of this interesting little village. In the evening, listen to the stories of the tropical vanilla farmers that live in this region. For dinner, enjoy a typical meal prepared on a wood stove.
After breakfast, get ready for a 1-hour private transfer to Manuel Antonio, where you can enjoy spectacular beaches and the national park (great for wildlife-watching). End of tour. Optional: We can also arrange a 1.5-hour transfer to Uvita (for Marino Ballena National Park) or a 2.5-hour transfer to Sierpe (for a visit to the amazing Osa Peninsula).
