Welcome to the Gold Coast! Now that you have settled in, it's time to see the city! Join us in the morning for an optional worship service at a local church.  That afternoon, we will take a bus tour of Accra: Visit the W.E.B. Dubois Center, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Drive through Jamestown, take an Insta-worthy photo in Black Star/Independence Square, and get some shopping done at the Arts Center!  

An in depth introduction to Ghanaian social work.  Hear from social work educators, practitioners, and public and private sector officials. Participants will visit the University of Legon Department of Social Work, meet officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection of Ghana, and end the evening with a networking mixer in collaboration with the Ghana Association of Social Workers (GASOW).

On this day (full paying participants only) we will participate in TWO amazing workshops: "Cultural Approaches to Providing Trauma Informed Care" by Dr. Paulette D. Hubbert, Founder and CEO of Inspired Wholeness LLC., and "The Ethical Implications of Secondary Trauma" by Dr. Allessia P. Owens-King, Assistant Professor and Advisor of the Nia Mentoring Initiative.  Prepare to be informed, engaged, and educated!

We will depart early for a roadtrip to the Central Region of Ghana. First, a hike through the Kakum National Park to reach the notorious Canopy Walkway - an adventurers delight! Next, onward to Cape Coast Castle, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its historic role in the trans-atlantic slave trade. As we  re-enter the "Door of No Return," this is bound to be one of your most memorable lifetime experiences. 

Today we spend a day engaging in service learning activities with older adults!  In collaboration with the Golden Chapter, a non-profit organization that addresses loneliness and social isolation challenges faced by older people  in Ghana through the provision of a communal environment, we will participate in various activities including arts and crafts, traditional dance and drumming, and insightful dialogue with our revered elders! 

And on the 7th day...they rested! After a full week of interactive activities, you need a day of rest and relaxation! Enjoy some sun at one of Ghana's best private beaches; finish shopping at the bustling Arts Centre; or simply process this experience with your fellow sojourners by the hotel poolside.  Then we'll regroup at the end of the day with a farewell toast and commemorative photo!
