Cruise on the River Orwell from Ipswich's Beacon Marina and take in the beauty of the surrounding countryside from an unusual POV! For wildlife lovers there is plenty of interest on the river banks and beyond, and for those who want to sit and relax, there's plenty of opportunity to do that, too. If the conditions at sea are too rough, we'll stay on the river but if they look favourable, we'll head out and take a pleasant bimble around the immediate coastal area.

We do encourage you to participate in the sailing of Excelsior so that you can truly appreciate her capabilities and start to put yourself in the shoes of the hardy men who worked on her when she was first built over 100 years ago. Excelsior is sailed as authentically as possible whilst still complying with up-to-date safety regulations so she provides a fascinating insight into local history and the tough lives lived by her crew. We'll teach you all you need to know to helm and raise, set and drop the sails as well as explaining how we can chart our progress and plan ahead using both our digital and paper charts.

Refreshments are available throughout the day with a light lunch taken on the move.

Trainers or wellies are perfect footwear, do check the weather forecast and remember if can be chilly if there is a sea breeze, even on warm days. Layers are the best option.

We will leave Beacon Marina at 10am and get you back at 4-4.30pm.
