The Cotopaxi National Park is in the central highlands of Ecuador and is famous for the stunning Cotopaxi volcano. Cotopaxi is 5897 meters high and is considered to be one of the highest active volcanos in the world. This tour starts from Quito, with a pickup at your hotel. The drive to the entrance of the National Park is about 2 hours and once there, the adventure continues.
First stop is the museum of the National Park. A small site museum with an explanation of the history of the volcano. After this the bus ride continues for another 15 minutes to lake Limpiopungo.
At this lake, we recommend a short walk to watch the water birds that inhabit the lake. Once there and with the luck of clear weather you will be able to enjoy the breath-taking view of both Rumiñahui and Cotopaxi volcano. From here the bus ride continues up the Cotopaxi by road for 30 minutes up to the parking lot situated at 4500 meters. From here passengers can walk an additional 300 meters in altitude (takes about 45 minutes to walk) to the climbers’ hut, located at 4800m. Here you can sit down for a snack or a hot drink and ask for a stamp in your passport for having reached this highpoint. After this unforgettable walk we will drive back to Tambopaxi lodge located in the Cotopaxi national park for an optional lunch (not included) before driving back to Quito
