Join us as we journey to South America. Cartagena, also known as Cartagena de Indias, is a major port city on the northern coast of Colombia, situated in the Caribbean Coast Region along the Caribbean Sea. It's the capital of the Bolívar Department and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its colonial walled city and fortresses
Cartagena has as many stories to tell as its streets in the old quarter has names, and today you will visit the highlights of “La Heroica” (the Heroic city – name gave to the Cartagena during the times of the Colony). Begin at the fortress of San Felipe de Barajas, a masterpiece of engineering and military strategy built by the Spaniards to defend the city from pirates and pillagers. Despite several attempts to storm it, the fortress was never taken.
Then continue walking around the walled colonial city where narrow streets and vine-draped balconies will take you back in time. End your tour with a visit to the Convent of San Pedro Claver, a monumental three-story building that is considered one of the jewels of the Spanish colonial architecture.
This morning you will be transferred from your Cartagena hotel to the pier. The tour starts at the Cartagena Pier, from where you will board a shared boat going to the Rosario Islands. The national park is surrounded by coral reefs and lapped by clear blue waters and is the natural habitat for a large variety of marine fauna. Three ecosystems thrive here: coastal lagoons, mangroves surrounding them, and tropical forest. You will have plenty of free time for snorkeling and relaxation. Enjoy a typical lunch (included) and other additional activities offered by this place at an additional rate.
This is a day to figure out other activities that are not included in this trip.
