Discover the Magic of Derrynane: A Guided Walk for lovers of unspoiled nature.


Escape the hustle & bustle and immerse yourself in the beauty of Derrynane Woods on this fully guided walk. Breathe in the fresh sea air, explore ancient woodland trails, and discover breathtaking views of the Wild Atlantic Way.


Our experienced guide will lead you along the scenic trails, point out hidden gems, and ensure your safety and enjoyment throughout the walk.


This moderate 9km loop walk takes approximately 4 hours, with plenty of time to relax, take photos, and soak in the scenery.

Sample Itinerary

Beginning at Derrynane House (usually 10:30 AM), we'll enter the quiet scenic woodlands, stopping to take in the wild Atlantic views and for photos at the beautiful river cascade and rockpools. 


From here we'll begin our ascent to reach our panoramic viewing points overlooking Derrynane Harbour.


As we reach our half-way point, we'll find a nice spot for lunch. 


We typically take a short trip to Abbey Island and sometimes walkers will choose to go for a refreshing swim afterwards on the beautiful Derrynane Beach. (Pack your swim gear)


Toilet facilities are available at two points towards the end of the walk.

Walk Description

On this 9 km easy to moderately difficult 4 hr experience, you’ll explore a taste of the Kerry Way, The Derrynane Mass Path, beach, shoreline and native woodland trails.  


Suitable clothing and waterproof footwear are required. 


Start time at 10:30AM at Derrynane House Carpark. We carpool from Sneem if convenient.

Scheduled walking experiences will proceed once two people have booked. 


Private experiences are subject to minimum number of 3 or the equivalent in charges. 


Full payment required at booking: This secures your spot and helps with planning.

Cancellation Policy

 By you (guest):

  • Full refund: Up to 7 days before the walk.
  • Partial refund: 3 days before the walk.
  • No refund: Within 2 days of the walk.

  • Full refund: In case of cancellation due to inclement weather (e.g., heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms). You'll have the option to reschedule for another date.

Whats to Wear and What to Pack

•  Quick-drying loose or stretchy pants.  Avoid wearing jeans and cotton tee-shirts, which can get uncomfortable when warm and very cold when wet. 

•  Waterproof walking boots with good grips and good laces.

•  Good Walking Socks 

•  100% waterproof shell type jacket.

What to Pack for this Walk?

  • A walking pole or better still two poles
  • Spare warm fleece type top (a couple of thin layers).
  • Small backpack for food, spare clothes and other supplies.
  • Hat & Gloves.
  • Gaiters (optional)
  • Waterproof over-trousers.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Smartphone for contact and for fantastic photos.
  • Water bottle – preferably a reusable one.

    Carpooling from Sneem can be arranged to the start of the walk. Guests may choose to travel in their own car.
  • Poles
    For all moderate trail walks, I recommend everyone should use walking poles

  • Snacks & Water
    Please ensure that you have sufficient supplies for this walk.
  • Derrynane House Ticket
    Free currently but this will likely change. The museum is well worth a visit and details the facintaing life of Daniel O'Connell (The Liberator)
