Travel Tips & Packing List

Travel Tips & Packing List

Welcome to Portugal!

September is one of the best times to visit Portugal. The summer crowds begin to thin, temperatures are warm but comfortable, and the vineyards are alive with harvest season. Expect beautiful sunny days, pleasant evenings, and ideal weather for sightseeing.

Weather

  • Lisbon: 68–82°F (20–28°C)

  • Porto: 61–77°F (16–25°C)

  • Douro Valley: 64–84°F (18–29°C)

Most days are sunny, but an occasional rain shower is possible, especially in northern Portugal.

  • €100–200 in cash for small purchases

Helpful Tip: Keep digital copies of your passport and travel documents on your phone and email yourself a backup copy before departing.

Shoes

You'll spend plenty of time walking on cobblestone streets and hills.

Bring:

Most hotels, restaurants, and cafés offer free Wi-Fi.

If you'd like data while exploring, consider:

  • Your carrier's international plan

Safety Tips

Portugal is considered one of Europe's safest countries, but use normal travel precautions.

  • Keep valuables secure in crowded areas.

  • Wear a crossbody or anti-theft bag.

  • Be aware of pickpockets in busy tourist areas, especially on trams and public transportation.
