      About this trip

This 3 day/2 night trip offers the opportunity to experience genteel Savannah with both planned tours and activities as well as time for exploration on your own.  The trip features some of the "must see" iconic Savannah sites experienced in the world-famous Historic District and its' 22 squares dripping with Spanish moss and graceful architecture.   Visits to Savannah's newest attraction, the American Prohibition Museum - America's Only Prohibition Museum as well as a "hidden gem", the Pin Point Heritage Museum of the Gullah Geechee Culture are also included.

      Cancellation Policy

Emergencies happen.  I don't like to keep people's money when something happens that forces you to cancel the trip.  My philosophy and policy is that I return all costs to you that I can recover.  Many times this is 100% if you have to cancel pretty far out but if it is last minute I may not be able to recover the cost of a ticket or hotel room.  I also will always try to resell your seat.  Sometimes I have a waiting list for trips and this is possible.  Of course, a sure way to protect your trip investment is with the purchase of trip insurance.  WeTravel offers insurance through TravelEx Insurance or feel free to use a company of your own choosing.

If I have to cancel the trip due to lack of participation or Act of God Weather,  I will try to reschedule the trip first.  If this is not possible, then I will refund your trip purchase

      Itinerary

      Discovering Savannah
      Itinerary details

Day One  is Travel Day.  Based upon where passengers live, I will select departure locations that are central and secure.  This usually consists of one departure in Wilmington from the Steinmart parking lot and a second location in Leland.  Once we are all boarded we travel west to Interstate 95 and head south toward Savannah.  The bus has a bathroom but we will have a bathroom stop or two including one for lunch.  Check in at the Embassy Suites is 4pm.  We check-in, get oriented to our surroundings and then enjoy a Welcome Night dinner at the historic and beloved, Vics on the River Restaurant.

Day Two begins with a 90-minute narrated Trolley Tour.  The tour route takes us throughout the cobblestone streets and squares past site such as the famed Forsyth Square and Fountain, SCAD Museum of Art, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Mercer Williams House made famous by the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and the Birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low to mention a few.  Be prepared for costumed re-eanctors to greet the trolley at any of the stops!  Following the trolley tour, we experience the fun of the roaring 20's and come face to face with gangsters and rumrunners while touring the "intoxicating" exhibits of the American Prohibition Museum.

Lunch is on your own and options are plentiful.  After lunch, with maps and Visitor Guides in hand, you can spend the remainder of the day using your Hop On/Off Trolley ticket to explore the Historic District on your own for more history, arts or shopping.  Patty will provide recommendations and suggested "on your own" itineraries.  That evening dinner is on your own.  Dining suggestions will be made available in advance.  Are you a solo traveler?  Join Patty and other solo travelers for dinner.

Day Three - Following breakfast and check-out we visit the Pin Point Heritage Museum at 9:30am for a 90 minute tour and fascinating education of the Gullah Geechee culture and traditions.  The Museum shares the story of the Pin Point Community founded in 1890 by freed slaves.  Gullah-Geechee culture, traditions, language, music and spiritual life all come to life with more than 3,000 square feet of exhibition space, artifacts and interactive displays.  The tour is guided by a local Pin Point Community resident.

Upon completion of the tour, we travel north back toward Wilmington making a stop for lunch along the way.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!
