About the retreat leader and facilitator

Peggy  Farmer, Ph.D., is the founder of Self Mastery International and will be your retreat guide, facilitator, and coach. With over 30 years of  experience providing women's wellness retreats around the world, she  brings  to any program a passion for self love and transformation. Peggy  studied yoga and meditation in India from 1989-1993 and was part of the  International Peace Conference that drafted the International Declaration of Peace with the UN. She has studied with and learned about sacred ceremonies from shamans in both Peru and Mexico. Peggy holds certifications in yoga, meditation, and coaching with a focus on emotional intelligence, stress management,  nutrition, mediation, and compassionate communication. With her diverse background in mental health, public health, and wellness, Peggy is well suited to help retreatants transform their old patterns into a  healthier and happier way of being. She is the author of  "Exploratory Surgery of the Soul, A Journey to Self Mastery" and the guided meditation audio "Letting Go". She is passionate about planetary upliftment and loves to travel to sacred sites around the world to perform ceremonies for planetary healing. For more information, check out her website: www.peggyfarmer.com

Karen El-Bayadi Tharp will be the facilitator for the Expressive Arts portion of the program. She has been a working Registered Nurse for 20 years  with a background in Expressive Therapy. She originally trained with  Natalie Rogers at the Person Centered Expressive Therapy Institute through Sonoma State University, while obtaining her degree in  Expressive Therapy and Fine Art at Prescott College. She has been working with college students in University Health for 23 years. Her  ongoing participation in a Courage to Lead group based on Parker Palmer’s work, has led her to believe that mindful exploration and the cultivation of experiences within the natural world is a remarkable catalyst for our soul to emerge and be tended. Karen has participated in several silent mindfulness retreats with the late Thich Nhat Han. She  enjoys helping others unearth their true self with grace and compassion. A born naturalist, Karen can be found thriving while in her garden, cooking for friends, or walking in the Western North Carolina woods with her dog, Olive.

Testimonials from past participants

"Another WOWZA trip! It’s hard (impossible, really) to convey how crazy good Peggy is at her own brand of personal growth. But we ALL felt loved and appreciated on many levels. I also greatly appreciated our fantastic, adventurous activities and excursions in beautiful Belize. It was a truly memorable trip that supported local entrepreneurs and was a magical blend of fun and inner work. THANK YOU!!"

"We had a wonderful time together, Dr. Peggy Farmer took the absolute handle on everything while in Belize. She, not only, helped me heal, but also helped me gain a sense of freedom through her workshops and absolute fun. I would love to do this again in the future, I am thrilled to go on with my future and ongoing path towards embracing my magnificence"

Alondra R.

"Our group leader, Dr. Peggy Farmer, is a remarkable therapist, sacred spaces guide, part-historian, part raconteur, and genuine healer. Sumak Travel provided great local guides while supporting family-owned businesses. People were very friendly and knowledgeable, the food was good, transportation easy, and accommodations very comfortable. This was a truly memorable trip."
