      About this trip

Join Blue Planet for a long weekend of exciting diving in Bimini. Escape the cold and enjoy all this laid back Bahamian island has to offer. And don't forget your underwater camera: the highlight of this trip will be the opportunity to dive with ALL the sharks!

      Bimini

Bimini, approximately 50 miles east of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale coastline, is the closest island in the Bahamas to the US mainland. Perched at the edge of a sheer underwater cliff that falls thousands of feet into the blue abyss, it is an oasis for wildlife. The Gulf Stream rushes north, washing past Bimini, feeding and warming its coral reefs and serving as a watery highway for everything from marlin to manta rays, dolphin to sea turtles. And during the winter months, Great Hammerhead Sharks!

      The Diving

Minimum dive certification/experience:  Open Water Diver. Beginners will feel comfortable at many of the protected reefs, but the Gulf Stream, which travels past Bimini, can create fast-paced drifts more suitable to advanced divers. We will select sites with the dive operator based on everyone's experience level.

In Bimini, colorful coral reefs, sheer walls, shallow wrecks and caverns produce a variety of dive types including night dives, drift dives, easy reef dives and tec dives. Of course, this part of the Bahamas is most famous for its shark dives.

Many scuba divers who are attracted to Bimini come to see the sharks. During the winter and spring months, you’re likely to see hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, silky sharks, oceanic whitetip sharks and the occasional tiger shark. Dolphins often show up to investigate both divers and their boats. And pilot whales, humpback whales and sperm whales can be seen when traveling to open ocean dive sites. Green turtles, hawksbill turtles, leatherback turtles and eagle rays swim along the current while seahorses, Bahama sea stars, queen conches and hordes of tropical fish hide amongst the colorful coral reefs.

      Other Activities

There’s plenty to keep you occupied top side as well. Explore the island on a bike, take a kayak or paddle board for a spin or just relax on the beach.

      Bimini Big Game Club Resort

Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina is a boutique resort situated close to everything in Alice Town in North Bimini. Accommodations include beautifully decorated rooms, cottages and penthouses. Enjoy the fresh water swimming pool, shaded hammocks, complimentary water sports and LOTS more! The resort also is home to the Bimini Big Game Bar & Grill, Sharkies Bar & Grill, Neal Watson’s Bimini Scuba Center and a 75-slip full service marina.

Wonderful trip! Everyone at the dive shop in Belize was super nice. Met a lot of really wonderful people and hope to keep in touch with them. Really nice to have a trip that didn't require being out of office an entire week.

This was a short, but densely packed trip. The trip was well organized, the leader did a good job communicating with everyone and organizing the various meetups. The dive shop selected was nice (not fantastic), and I thought the accommodations selected were very nice (above expectations). We stayed at a small hotel, so get togethers happened organically and were organized by the group as well. Really appreciated how travel arrangements and transfers were handled as well. I definitely plan to travel with this group again.

It was a great trip! The people on the trip were nice and the weather was perfect. The dive operator had some high and low notes. The dive masters and the crew were great. The rental gear quality, cleanliness, and charges were not great. They charged non-divers just to be on the boat and they charged $15/ tank of nitrox which is quite high. Overall I highly recommend the trip!

Thanks for your review, Sarah! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the trip despite a few issues with the Belize operator. We will definitely address those with them. We hope to see you on another trip soon!
