The JapanBall Honkbalweek baseball tour ⚾⚾⚾ (July 10-16, 2022) was a trip of a lifetime. It was exciting to watch the games at an intimate setting - Pim Mulierstadion in Haarlem - seating capacity of 4,500. Congrats to host team Netherlands for winning the championship. We saw a lot of games between the Netherlands, Cuba, Curacao, Italy, Japan and USA. What did we like about this tour? Shane Barclay, President of JapanBall, incorporates the culture into the program: (1) Enjoyed the local cuisine by having herring, bitterballen, stroopwafel, poffertjes and the world famous friets with mayo, (2) Visited the Anne Frank Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Frans Hals Museum, and St. Bavokerk in Haarlem, (3) Rode bikes like the locals though the charming city of Haarlem, (4) Canal ride on the Spaarne, (5) Strolled along the Nine Little Streets in Amsterdam including the Albert Cuyp Market, and (6) Beach excursion to Zandvoort. What was amazing is that we did all this within a one week time span. Highlights for me: (1) The fan interaction at the ballpark. Everyone was very friendly and the cheering reminded me of the fans in Japan. I loved the fans squatting to the jovial music whenever there was a pitching change. (2) Bikes, bikes and bikes everywhere! No wonder the Dutch have nice legs and shapely derrieres. (3) I was in awe as I stood just a few feet from Dutch master paintings like the Van Gogh self-portrait, The Milkmaid by Vermeer and The Nightwatch by Rembrandt. The visit to the Anne Frank house was sobering as it brought painful memories of the horrific past of the Jews fleeing the Nazis. (4) Listening to the Christian Muler organ at St Baviokerk that Mozart and Handel played in the 1700's. (5) Establishing lasting friendships with fellow JapanBallers. The JapanBall tours are for baseball aficionados who have a dream to watch the sport in different geographic settings. There are trips to the Dominican Republic, Europe, Japan, and South Korea. Sign up as you will not be disappointed!

The city of Haalem was a wonderful site for a fun international baseball tournament. The hotel, restaurants and transportation provided by JapanBall were all well done, and the small size of the tour made it easy to get to know all of the tour participants and make new friendships. The schedule was great, allowing time for tourism, as well as baseball. We had a chance to attend 10 baseball games, but this still left us enough time to see all the sites in Haarlem - a canal boat tour, the Frans Hals Museums, the Teylors Museum, the Great Cathedral and its historic organ played by Mozart and Hayden, St. Elizabeth's (the city history museum) - and still allow for a side trip to the seaside town of Zandvoort, to walk on the fine sand beach and have a fish and chips lunch. A few group meals, including two at the ballpark, were nicely done, which left a number of days to eat at dining places around the city of our choosing (including a great meal at the Michelin star Ratatouile Food & Wine restaurant. Can't wait to do it again!

I was on a couple of portions of JapanBall's recent West Coast Baseball Tour and had a great time. The tour was extremely well planned and executed, and it had a very fun, relaxed vibe. I was impressed by how so many details were taken care of flawlessly. There was one incident in which our limo broke down on the highway, but the tour organizers did a terrific job of quickly lining up alternate transportation and getting us to our destination comfortably and on time. I could not have been happier with my experience.
