Join us for a week of excellent yoga, delicious food and beautiful surroundings at the delightful Amassa Place in South West France. Situated in Gascony, often referred to as the Tuscany of France, Amassa sits in sixteen acres of woods, rewilded meadows and flowering gardens, with stunning views over rolling countryside, hilltop villages and distant views to the horizon. Surrounded by nature you will have the time and space to relax and reconnect with yourself. The rhythms of our daily yoga practice will leave you feeling clear and calm. You'll return home carrying a little of the retreat vibe with you and feeling grounded and nourished by your time in this special place.
Amassa is a beautiful, secluded rural hamlet in South West France, renovated and designed for wellness retreats, workshops and gatherings. Amassa consists of four individual old stone houses which have been lovingly restored, preserving their unique character and old French charm. Modern comforts are blended with stylishly curated and locally sourced vintage finds. There are two outdoor swimming pools with panoramic views and a variety of terraces, hammocks and quiet nooks for lounging.
Further afield you can explore local villages, vineyards, markets and cafes. Enjoy a little wine tasting or vintage shopping! There are local cycle routes and the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail is also accessible. There's even a thermal spa nearby. If you feel like venturing into a city, Toulouse is approximately one hour away.
We highly recommend Amassa's website and Instagram page to get a feel for the place!
Amassa consists of four old stone houses. All houses have been renovated to enhance their original features and atmosphere. They are beautiful and thoughtfully designed, allowing you to relax and feel at home. Each house has its own lounge with comfortable sofas and a table for drawing, writing or creative work, all perfect for enjoying a book, puzzles or board games. Each room has its own modernised ensuite with rain showers and WC. All houses have lovely terraces with comfortable deckchairs offering quiet space, with access to the gardens.
Meals are prepared for us using local, fresh and seasonal products. Brunch and dinner will be shared at the communal table either inside or outside depending on the weather. Tea, coffee and a fruit bowl always available.
Amassa have converted the Old Barn into two beautiful, large, purpose-built studios. Thick stone walls keep the studios cool in summer. Huge double height glass doors frame the views of the countryside, and there are polished concrete floors and a wonderful wooden ceiling with exposed 100-year-old rafters and beams.
Expect a more active class in the morning, interweaving mindfulness, meditation and philosophical explorations with a clear and safe approach to the physical practice. The afternoon classes will be slower and quieter and will include a deep restorative practice. Maja and Clare's expert guidance will ensure that you have a rewarding and meaningful experience regardless of whether you are a beginner or have been practicing yoga for years. And with two teachers in the room you will get as much (or as little) individual attention as you need or want including plenty of hands-on support and savasana love.
Chances are, if you're reading this ,you already know Maja or Clare, or both of us. And if you don't know us yet, welcome! We hope to meet you very soon.
We've both been teaching yoga for about 20 years. We both originally trained at OM Yoga in New York City and have maintained successful careers teaching group classes, private lessons, teacher trainings and yoga retreats around the world ever since. We both teach intelligently sequenced, alignment based, mindful vinyasa classes and we love restorative yoga. We're down to earth and supportive and we want to make everyone feel comfortable and also appropriately challenged. We see all of our students as individuals and pride ourselves on taking care of everyone's unique needs as well as the group dynamic. Everyone is welcome!
