About this trip

The Great Gardens, Inspiring Landscapes And Hidden Gems Of West Dorset And Somerset.

Saturday May 24th - Friday May 30th 2025

A benign climate, breath-taking scenery and fertile soil have made west Dorset and neighbouring Somerset home to some of England’s most wonderful gardens (and gardeners).

This late-spring tour is a perfectly timed introduction to English gardens for guests coming from the Chelsea Flower Show (20th-24th May 2025), embracing the parks and grounds of some of the region’s greatest grand houses, with exclusive access to its very best private gardens. As well as formal gardens you will experience the wild landscapes of ancient woodlands and flower-rich meadows, at their Spring best.

The tour will also feature talks and design ideas from some of the horticultural world’s most inspiring figures including Julian and Isabel Bannerman and Howard Sooley.

It's all included!

The price of the tour includes your 6 night stay at Symondsbury Manor, an eclectic and comfortable private manor house with a distinguished history, as well as delicious teas and dinners prepared by Caroline and Clare, with help from Dorset’s best cake baker, Haley. Jason Goodwin and Simon Tiffin set up G and T Garden Tours to share our enthusiasm for the gardens and stunning landscapes of Dorset. It's an historic and beautiful region of England, and we visit the parks and grounds of some of the region’s greatest grand houses, with access to gardens that are not usually open the public. Based for the week in a historic house on the Jurassic Coast, with groups limited to 14 people, guests enjoy splendid accommodation, excellent food, and an unforgettable horticultural experience.

Where do I start, Summer Glow tour was well above my expectations and was an absolute incredible tour. The gardens we visited were incredible and had access to amazing people to talk to and learn about different gardens. The other guests of the tour were amazing and from all over the world, we had such a good time talking to them and becoming friends! The food was amazing, they had a private chef every night fix a five star meal. The accommodations were fun and next to some amazing shopping and getting to know the locals. I want to go on each of their tours!!!!! It is a valuable learning experience plus a pampered vacation. Loved both of our host. They were such kind and funny gentlemen, I loved every minute of it.

G and T's Summer Glow Tour was a delight - the gardens were various, inspirational, beautifully planned and planted. It was a privilege to be taken round them by owners or head gardeners. Simon and Jason kept up a flow of entertaining anecdotes, ensuring we learned about key historical events and local intrigues. We ate like gourmands whether at carefully selected restaurants or at Symondsbury Manor and such was the quality of the cakes that we returned to each afternoon that the good resolutions about future restraint made following a three course lunch were quickly forgotten. The small group of participants quickly gelled and there was much laughter and chat.

I really loved Summer Glow 2025! It was more like spending a week visiting friends at their beautiful homes and gardens, and less like a "bucket list" type of tour. Jason and Simon live in Dorset and personally know all the gardeners which I believe added so much to our visits -- everyone was so generous with their time and willingness to converse with us. We stayed in a beautiful, characterful manor and every evening we were treated to, first, sumptuous cakes and tea, then cocktails, then fabulous dinners from two very gifted chefs on hand for the week. We visited one garden in the morning, then had lunch at a beautiful restaurant somewhere nearby, then visited another garden in the afternoon -- sometimes we fit in an extra. The pace was perfect, not pressuring us to accomplish something that would feel stressful -- all the same, we saw and learned so much! Dorset is magical, quiet with varied landscapes. Even in high season, it didn't feel at all touristy. Our hosts were really lively and hilarious and our group was too -- it was great fun. I already miss it!

The Summer Glow 2025 Garden Tour was incredibly amazing. Words can’t do it justice. The carefully curated gardens surpassed all my expectations. From the grand estate sweeping landscapes and lush gardens, some with formal topiary grounds, to smaller English estate gardens, each with unique and sometimes fanciful plantings and layouts, all were equally enchanting as were the owners themselves. Simon and Jason were the ultimate hosts; friendly, approachable, humorous, generous and lovers of people and plants. Add to all this an amazing chef who presented us with delightful cuisine not only each evening, but provided an enchanting Afternoon Tea every day. The people, the gardens, the food, the beautiful Dorset countryside all combined to make an unforgettable and wonderful experience. I can’t wait to return and explore more English gardens. Thank you Jason and Simon!

One of the best tours I’ve done - Jason, Simon and Fred are brilliant hosts. The gardens are incredible, most of them only accessible because Jason and Simon are friends with the owners. The schedule was perfect; one garden in the morning, a great lunch at a terrific local restaurant, another garden in the afternoon, back to the Manor for tea and cake, time for a snooze then cocktails and dinner. Dinner cooked by Claire and Caroline who run a local restaurant. Very very good. Jason and Simon are perfect for the role; erudite, warm, generous, and entertaining. And of course the rest of the group, all strangers to one another at the start, got on famously; there were lots of stories and lots of laughter.
