Eco Tour to the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco & Coyoacán

Experience the vibrant spirit of southern Mexico City on this 6 hour immersive, preservation-focused tour. Glide through Xochimilco’s (UNESCO World Heritage Site) ancient canals on a traditional trajinera, then explore the cobblestone streets, colonial architecture and vibrant markets of artistic Coyoacán in a small group.

Highlights of the tour:

• Board the trajinera at Puerto Cuemanco and drift through the canals of Xochimilco (UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will spend between 1 to 2 hours with stops for explanations.

  -See chinampas, floating crop gardens from pre-hispanic times.

  -Visit the ajolotario, axolotl sanctuary. Home to the axolotl, a unique amphibian often called a “living symbol” of Mexico—famous for its strong conservation value.

  - Learn how ecological changes (such as water quality, habitat pressures and seasonal dynamics) affect wildlife, farming and daily life along the canals.

• Continue to Coyoacán:

  With its bohemian energy and historic charm, walking through plazas and markets and enjoying a thoughtfully selected local lunch (food not included).
