About your trip

Explore one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth on our Ecuador Amazon birding tour, a carefully designed birding journey that moves from the eastern foothills of the Andes into the heart of lowland rainforest. This immersive Amazon birding tour prioritizes habitat diversity, unhurried pacing, and extended time in some of the country’s most productive birding areas.

Designed for birders and nature travelers who value depth over speed, this small-group tour follows an elevation and habitat gradient that maximizes species diversity while allowing time to fully experience the rhythms of the rainforest.

Why choose Birding Man Wildlife Tours?

Birding Man Wildlife Tours is passionate about supporting conservation through sustainable travel. Having spent two years in Ecuador as a Peace Corps volunteer, Birding Man founder and lead guide Ryan Dibala has remained in close contact with several different communities in Ecuador. One of these communities, San Francisco de Borja, has spearheaded reforestation and birdwatching efforts as an alternative to unsustainable agriculture. By collaborating with Sandra Morocho, an activist, birder, and guide from San Francisco de Borja, Birding Man aims to dissolve language and cultural barriers through common ties and interests in nature. You can feel great about your dollars directly supporting a group of humble, landholding Ecuadorians who are working to preserve some of Ecuador's most treasured wildlife.

Lodging

You'll arrive the day before the trip and be met at the Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport by your guides and transferred to Puembo Birding Garden. Arriving earlier in the day will give you ample time to enjoy the diversity of inter-Andean scrub birds that can be found there. In the morning, we will have a welcome breakfast and orientation and head to the airport to take a short domestic fight to the Amazonian city of Coca, whereupon we'll make our way up to the eastern Andean foothills where we'll stay at the beautiful Wild Sumaco Lodge. After a couple of days there, we will transfer down into lowland Terra Firme forest where we'll stay at Yachana Lodge. From there, we will take a motorized canoe down the Napo River to the beautiful Sani Lodge, where we'll spend the next few days enjoying the areas in and around Yasuní National Park. After our time in the Amazon, we will board a flight back to Quito and enjoy our final dinner together at Puembo Birding Garden.
