About this trip

The Galapagos archipelago is perhaps one of the most bio-diverse places on earth. Ninety-seven percent of the islands are a national park and half of the land species (and one fifth of the marine species) are endemic to the Galapagos.

Set 1000 kilometres off the coast of Ecuador on a three-way tectonic plate junction, the Galapagos Islands are made up of 13 major islands, 6 minor islands and 40 islets in the Pacific Ocean, which are the result of numerous volcanic eruptions – including 13 in the last 100 years.

While the mention of the Galapagos Islands may conjure up images of bizarre and unique wildlife, the islands are actually home to 25,000 human inhabitants too, who live in small communities dotted across the islands.
