About this trip

I have been wanting to create a retreat since the beginning of 2020 and during this time it has allowed me to see a few of the flaws retreats create. Most retreats are in far away locations that ask for an allotted amount of time which addresses two problems with retreats; the cost (some not including price of travel) and time away from work and or family. Many people are not able to take a week off from their careers and/or families. Retreats pressure to adhere to a schedule of activities scheduled back to back to achieve ultimate relaxation. By the end of the retreat the placebo effect of relaxation is worn off leaving most feeling drained and back to their realities of life without the tools or knowledge to better understand how to avoid getting burned out. It’s hard being in a human body and living the human experience- how can one just be?

Announcing Element Yoga’s "Mend Easy" retreat this September in Yankton, South Dakota. Would you consider joining me and my fellow collaborator, Cassie Willett of Flow and Paddle, for a yoga retreat on and off the water? Relax in total comfort in this beautiful brand new home with 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a stunning view of the Lewis and Clark Lake and its grand Chalkstone Bluffs in Yankton, SD. A staycation away from home!  Enjoy coffee on the deck while watching the boats sail by or relax on the cozy couch by the fireplace. Within walking distance of the L&C Marina as well as walking and bike paths along the water’s edge. This retreat is a option for anyone, couples, families and/or groups of beings looking for the tools to heal.

Friday night (check-in 6 p.m.) we will start the night with veggie, meat and cheese charcuterie boards as everyone starts to settle into their rooms. During the duration of the retreat we will be offering our Open Fridge Policy, which allows guests to eat what they want and when they want to. Everyone has different times they eat and dietary restrictions we welcome everyone to make themselves at home. Our first night together, Tray will announce the activities, rules for the house and end the evening with a meditation.

Saturday morning (9-11 a.m.) we will meet Cassie at Lake Yankton for a beautiful morning Stand Up Paddle Board class with Flow and Paddle. After our morning class, feel free to shower, make something to eat, take a nap or gather a group together for a lovely hike near by. In the afternoon we will regroup at The Lake House for a presentation from Tray to talk about emotions; what are they and how to coupe with each emotion healthily. This workshop is meant to be able to give you the tools you'll need in order to address your emotions as they come in your life. These tools are meant to guide you through the emotions in order to release them from the body that is an emotional store house. After our workshop and a few hours to decompress then we will all meet in the kitchen to make a meal a together. We will offering our Open Fridge Policy throughout the retreat, but on Saturday evening we will be inviting our guests to join us for a group dinner with the help of everyone! The secret to a good meal? To make it with love. After everyone is done eating we'll clean up together and wrap up the night with another nightly meditation before quiet hours (10 p.m.-8 a.m.).

Sunday morning yoga with Tray will start at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. followed by free time for the rest of the day. This is a great opportunity to go for a hike, journal, sleep or whatever it means to relax for you. Guest who have paid for a second session with Flow and Paddle and/or oracle reading with Tray will take place during free time on Sunday. A closing celebrations will be at 5 p.m. followed along by check out at 6 p.m. from The Lake House.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding
SUP YOGA

Cassie Willett, owner of Flow and Paddle, will be guiding us through a SUP 101 basics before getting on the water for a gentle yoga flow that is suitable for everyone!

FAQ:

  • I have not been on a stand up paddle board before. Will I fall in?
    • There is always a chance of falling in when on paddle boards. Our exploration lifts off when we touch down and observe the mind’s tendencies when falling happens. The practice is to jump back onto the board and try again!

  • I have never done yoga before. Will the postures be accessible?
    • One of the many beauties of yoga is that each practitioner is free to take things at their own pace. If you remain mindful of your breath while laying down for the entire class, you will still be in perfect practice. That being said, classes have been designed to be accessible to all levels, giving newer practitioners options to ease into postures and modifications to deepen postures.

  • I don't believe I'm in the best shape. Will I be able to keep up?
    • We find that building a strong and flexible body and mind are the side effects of enjoying movement. By being completely in the moment, surrounded by nature and your supportive peers, you will gain a self confidence on the water.

  • Should I be able to swim?
    • Yes. The body needs to move freely on the board, so we do not wear life vests or the board’s ankle leash during the yoga practice portion of class. If you were fall in, you must be able to tread water, swim back to your board and climb back on.
