About this trip

As the new year of 2023 unfolds, we are all being asked to reflect on what really matters in our lives. Work/life balance has moved to the forefront of our consciousness as the pandemic seems to ebb and flow, while many are wisely beginning to contemplate both personal and planetary transformation. The pandemic has caused millions of people to reassess what is important to them in terms of all our relationships, including our connection to the planet and the need for compassion is paramount. Multiple recent studies show that anxiety, stress and burnout are 4 times higher since the pandemic, hence the need for a holistic model and innovative strategies like restorative retreats and other modalities to help people navigate this new landscape.

This June, we will be providing a transformational wellness retreat for women in beautiful Belize. This experience marries the beauty and the majesty of the natural world, sacred Mayan temples and wisdom from our indigenous communities with practical tools for embodying compassion and cultivating courage. We will employ experiential reframing strategies to clearly define a life that truly speaks to your whole self. To aid in the process, we will also utilize mind/body techniques like guided meditations and yoga along with snorkeling, hiking and dancing to deepen your sense of self-awareness, thereby yielding a higher degree of emotional intelligence.

Embodying Compassion & Cultivating Courage is a Self Mastery International retreat for women longing for a transformative, ecologically conscious, culturally rich experience. We have partnered again with Sumak Travel to design a journey through some of Belize's top attractions and a great mix of archaeology, adventure, nature, relaxation, education, healing and renewal. You will enjoy a snorkel adventure in the world-famous Belize Barrier Reef, climb the amazing temples of Caracol and walk in the impressive sites of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. You will also learn about Maya traditions and cuisine during a visit to a community.

This unique retreat is meant to deepen self-awareness and create a bridge between women from different backgrounds. The 7-day program features yoga, meditation, transformational workshops and other healing activities to enlighten your soul. Come forge new connections with other like-minded people and create lifelong bonds that deepen over time!

This retreat is now fully booked. You can join the waiting list and if you are interested in our retreats in other Latin American countries, please make sure you subscribe to our newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/ea9eae5d39da/sumak-travel-newsletter

Hello, We had a great time on our trip. Daniel is an excellent driver and his English ability is great. He was able to help us frequently with local interactions and is very knowledge about local history and culture. The various types of farms we found enjoyable. The farm we stayed at the first two days was nice because it was decent accommodations while still being immersive. For learning, the two places we visited on the last day were the most educational. Probably more information than most people are willing to experience but perfect for us. The lady translator assigned to us for the few days of tours was helpful but not necessary since Daniel would have been able to translate. Your team was helpful in coordinating things and setup was better than expected.

The trip was well organised and ran very smoothly. The Costa Rican people are very friendly and we were warmly welcomed at every place we visited. The local guides for the trips were essential. The natural environment is wonderful but you need to know where to look in order to see the best of it and to understand what you are looking at. We chose to stay 2 or 3 nights at each location and this allowed us to mostly do our trips in the mornings with the afternoons and evenings to relax. We hired a car after a week. It was a tough 4 wheel drive car and proved necessary to cope with some of the roads which were very poor quality in places. The climate is warm and wet and can be quite variable. At altitude at our first stop we needed warm clothes at night and a hot water bottle. At sea level the weather was much warmer. In the rain and cloud forests we needed waterproofs. We were well looked after and felt safe throughout. To get the best out of the natural world a certain level of fitness is required. In summary it is a glorious country with warm friendly people, a tropical climate and an abundance of nature.

We had a wonderful adventure and our agent, Felippe, matched our itinerary to our requirements exactly so we had a great variety of locations and trips and all the accommodation was authentic and locally owned. We were supported at every step of the way and Felippe was responsive and made helpful suggestions. We would happily use Sumak/Felippe again and would highly recommend them.

This was a fabulous adventure for us. We had a driver and tour guides the first 8 days and everything was all set up for us. We stayed in wonderful accommodations and were served breakfasts of our choice every morning. I highly recommend Sumak Travel.

Felipe at Sumak travel was outstanding in helping us with our travel plans, then following through with communications with us and our driver while we were in Costa Rica, to ensure that everything went as expected. He took the time to ask for, and understand our preferences, and offered different choices. We are so appreciative his effort and attention during the entire trip, including restaurant recommendations for lunches and dinners, and for making reservations for us at the last minute. Would highly recommend their services!
