PACKING LIST

We recommend bringing mostly clothing for warm weather; however, we have included a few items on the packing list for cool weather as well.

While the Galapagos Islands are a year-round destination, some months tend to be slightly cooler or hotter than others. The hottest months are usually February through April and the coolest are August through October.

It’s best to wear neutral tones and use fragrance-free sunscreen while on the islands to avoid attracting wasps.

It is very important to know that on each day of excursion (except the day of your arrival and departure); they will always have two types of activities: hiking and swimming so it is important to take the necessary clothes for each activity on each day of excursion:

For walks:

You have to take into consideration that you will visit dry islands with little shade, high temperatures, so it is essential to bring:

  • Hat
  • T-shirts with sleeves and suitable for protection from the sun, if they are made of a material of quick drying much better
  • Comfortable pants
  • Jacket breaks winds and rain
  • Hiking shoes (Tennis shoes or lightweight hiker,s anti-slip much better)
  • Sunglasses

For swimming;

  • Swimwear
  • Long sleeve bathrobe
  • Slippers or shoes for water (for walking on the beach)

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Water Thermos
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Sickness pills
  • Backpack
  • Camera
  • Waterproof bag for your camera or a plastic bag so things do not get wet.
  • Low denomination money to buy drinks during excursions and tips.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Hotel Selection

The hotel selection depends on the category of hotel that you choose. Once you choose the hotel class of preference, we will specify to you which hotels are available for the dates of your trip. Hotels are categorized in the following classes:  Luxury, First Class and Moderate. All the hotels we work with have been carefully chosen by us after close inspection.

Restaurants

The chosen restaurant for each included meal will be specified by your guide at the time. Distances between the hotel and restaurants will be within walking distance, thus cab fare is not included.

Public Speedboats

We recommend that you take a seasickness pill before each ride between islands if you are prone to seasickness. It is also recommended that you carry small plastic bags with you in case of seasickness. The speedboats are not completely covered so please make sure that valuable objects and electronics are stored in a plastic bag. The guide will not go with you on the speedboats but a new guide will greet you on the other side. There are no services onboard as the speedboat space is limited and the journey is relatively short. A water taxi ride is sometimes required (depending on the tide) from the dock to the speedboat; the cost is 1 USD per person and per ride. Please, make sure you bring cash in small denominations in case this expense is needed. This is a Public service out of our control.

NAVIGABLE TOURS:

Navigable tours taking place either from Santa Cruz Island (Santa Fe, Bartolomé, North Seymour and Plazas), Isabela Island (Cabo Rosa – Los Tuneles) or San Cristóbal Island (Española, Kicker Rock) do not always include a hotel pick-up service. Sometimes these require you to meet with the guide on the dock. The day before the tour, the guide or the person in charge of the navigable day tour will inform you of the exact timing, and if there will be either a hotel pick-up or a meeting point at the dock.

Guides

We work with local and independent guides certified by the Galapagos National Park. We organize excursions with local naturalist guides for each island (and sometimes for each activity). The guides will accompany you throughout all excursions, give explanations of the islands (flora and fauna) and coordinate the activities each day. The guides' responsibility with your group will begin and end with each daily excursion, the guide will not go with you on the speedboats between islands either. Other necessary communication with our guest will be handled by Erika Jaramillo our Customer Service Manager.

Galapagos Islands Adventure GIA
Galápagos Islands Adventure S.A. (GIA) is a Galapagueña company founded in 2007 by married couple Erika Jaramillo and José Benavides, permanent residents of the Galapagos Islands. Both are Tourism professionals and certified Naturalist Guides for the Galapagos National Park, each with 15 years of experience leading groups.
