Mastorochoria Konitsa is a group of mountainous settlements in the northeastern edge of the prefecture of Ioannina, in the area north of Konitsa, whose residents were previously engaged in the building art of stone. They are located between the Sarantaporos River and are surrounded by the Grammos mountain range, Smolikas, Tymfi and Nemertsika!
The Mastorochoria of Konitsa are 27 and the most famous of them are: Pyrsogianni, Plikati, Lykorrachi, Theotokos (Fetoko), Lagada, Agia Paraskevi (Kerasovo), Amarantos (Isboros), Pournia (Staritsani), Ganadio, Molista (Mesaria), Agia Varvara, countryside (Zelista), Pyxaria. 12 of these villages formed the municipality based in Pyrsogianni.
Local craftsmen, also known as" koudaraioi", built numerous works (stone bridges, churches, public buildings, residences) throughout Greece, the Balkans and some distant countries such as Ethiopia, Persia and America . They worked in groups or" bullocks, " for the most part far from their place, being absent for many months every year from their villages. Their special feature was their guild dialect, the so-called" koudaritika", which only they knew and with which they conversed freely without being understood by the employers. Today Mastorochoria belong to the municipality of Konitsa. (Source Wikipedia)
