The Zanzibari Island is famously known for its spices farming, especially Cloves, since the colonial era. The tour gives you a chance to venture into the aromatic world of spices and learn of the cultivation of some of your favourite spices as you walk through rows filled with the aroma of rich spices that tease your senses. In between the spices, you will find a variety of tropical fruits, which are found in different stages and enhance your learning experience.
The tour, apart from showing all the stages of planting, harvesting, and storing the spices, also illustrates why Zanzibari island is known as the Spice Island. The tour will be conducted at the Kizimbani Spice Farm, which is ideally situated near an eponymous forest. The experienced guides at the farm make the visit worthwhile with their immense knowledge and will take you through each tree/shrub and educate you. The farm cultivates Cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, and lemon grass, among other spices. Upon finishing your refreshing walk among the spice trees and shrubs, you will relax by getting a taste of some of the spices made in a sweet, flavoured tea.
On your way back, you may opt to stop at the Kidichi Persian Baths, which is nestled among the spice farms. This is another historic site that attracts many visitors. The baths were specially made for Sheherazade, the second wife of Sultan Seyyid Shah. Explore this site to get an idea of how luxury was experienced during the 18th Century.
After or before lunch, you will proceed to the Prison Island Tour
Prison Island Tour Situated Northwest of Stone Town, Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, is one of the historical attraction sites found in the Zanzibar islands. Built in 1893, the prison was designated to be used for slaves but ended up being quarantined for yellow fever patients. Apart from the ancient prison buildings, the island hosts a collection of endangered tortoise species as well as peacocks who are free to roam around the prison. Start off by boarding your private boat at Stone Town for your estimated 30-minute ride to the Prison Island. Upon arrival, you will be guided through the buildings and experience the captivating history of the place. Walk among these wise and well-behaved tortoises spread throughout the prison area, ranging from a few weeks old to hundreds of years old.
