After our beautiful walk, we'll arive at the Echo-Valley sign. We'll take a few minutes to prepare and Chad, will give you some background about the caves. This is great to refill your water, check your battery and prepare for a fun and thrilling adventure.
It's an easy hike. The caves lie up above Kalk Bay and is an easy experience for first time cavers. This round trip is perfect for children and if you are looking for a few hours of high quality, local adventure.
About the Caves.
There are 2 entrances to the cave. The first, faces Fishoek as an Entrance, and the Southern Entrance that faces Echo Valley as the exit. We will start off from the Fishoek entrance.,
The Caves are a tight fit and if you are claustrophobic this may be a bit scary, but you are in safe hands.
Boomslang Cave is an entrance to White Dome Grotto, which is another part of the cave. The passage that links the cave to the exit is narrow and thrilling.
The Boomslang cave, a home to local Small Rhinopophus bats, offers a large entrance that leads to a short stretch navigated by hands and knees. The cave itself is quite spacious, offering multiple side chambers for those who love exploring.
The beautiful Small Rhinopophus bats roost high in the main chamber, not looking for any drama!
There is no natural lighting that reaches the cave, so head torches are a must. We;ll emerge from the cave to a short but steep cravis, with a nice clearing at the bottom, which makes for a stunning view over Fishoek.
