About this trip

The Errinundra Wilderness Journey is a four-day supported cycling experience through the remote forests between Delegate and Orbost.

This is not a rail trail.
This is not a race.

This is a small-group wilderness immersion — riding quiet forestry roads, climbing to mountain lookouts, exploring cool temperate rainforest and standing among some of the oldest and largest Shining Gums known to exist.

You’ll ride through landscapes that feel untouched.
Stay in small country towns.
Eat well.

Snowy River Cycling provides full support — so you can focus on the riding and the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

Ride Style & Suitability

This journey includes a mix of quiet forestry gravel roads, dirt tracks and some sealed rural riding.

It has been designed for riders who are ready to step beyond the rail trail — those with entry-level gravel or mountain bike cross country experience who want to explore more remote terrain, but aren’t yet looking to tackle it alone.

Mountain bikes are ideal, and e-bike mountain are warmly encouraged. E-assist makes the steady climbing and mixed surfaces more enjoyable, allowing you to focus on the experience rather than the effort.

With full support each day, you can confidently ride into more adventurous country knowing we’ve taken care of the logistics.

Day 1

Day 1 image

Delegate to Bendoc

We gather in Delegate at 11am and begin rolling straight into the mountain forest country — quiet back roads, open skies and that steady rhythm that comes when you leave the busy world behind.

As we near Bendoc, we take a worthwhile detour to a mountain lookout — a satisfying climb that sets the tone for the days ahead. At the top, we share our first lunch together, looking back across the NSW landscape we’ve just ridden through.

By mid-afternoon we arrive in Bendoc and settle in for the next few nights, making ourselves at home at the Gateway to Errinundra

Distance: Approx. 23km

Day 2

Day 2 image

Delegate Diversion Tunnel Loop

We begin the day riding out along a high ridgeline, gradually climbing through mountain forest. The first section is a steady ascent — around 9km gaining approximately 340 metres — enough to warm the legs and settle into your rhythm.

It’s a satisfying climb rather than a punishing one, and the reward comes naturally. As we crest the ridge, the landscape opens out and the descent that follows is flowing and enjoyable — the kind of riding that reminds you why you love being out here.

Midway through the day, we pause the bikes for a short walk down to the Delegate River, where we discover an impressive piece of gold rush history.

In the 1880s, miners cut an 80-metre tunnel through solid rock to divert the river from its original course. By redirecting the water, they exposed the riverbed to search for gold — a remarkable example of ingenuity and determination in an isolated landscape.

Standing there, you can imagine the effort it took to carve through rock by hand.

After exploring the site, we return to the bikes and continue riding through quiet mountain country, carrying both the views and the stories of the region with us.

Riding distance approx. 25km

Day 3

Wilsons Hut & Plateau Riding

Today we explore deeper into the plateau country. Expect cool forest air, wide open gravel roads and a morning tea stop in a historic mountain hut.

Riding back tracks to another significant site, an old mining site.

We return to Bendoc for a relaxed evening and another hearty meal.

Distance: Approx. 32km

Day 4

Giants of Errinundra

Today is both the heart of the journey and our final riding day.

We make our way toward the Errinundra Old Growth Forest and step into a landscape of towering ancient Shining Gums — some of the largest and oldest known to exist. The air feels cooler here. The light softens under the canopy. It’s the kind of place that naturally makes you slow down and look up.

After spending time among the giants, we continue riding to a final lookout — a view well worth the effort and a fitting place to mark the end of our time in the forest.

We share a relaxed final lunch together before transferring back to Delegate via Bendoc, concluding the journey in the afternoon.

For many riders, this day becomes the one that stays with them long after the tour ends.

Riding distance: Approx. 50km
