About this trip

Reconnect With Your Inner Knowing

Esperanza is a Spanish word that translates to "hope" in English. Hope is a dynamic word, reflecting an optimistic state of mind both in the current understanding of the word and the archaic meaning, which translates to "trust."

The Esperanza Retreat is more than just a yoga retreat. This all-inclusive, week-long yoga, meditation, and self-inquiry retreat is an opportunity to build and foster a sense of trust in yourself, your community, and your dharma, or life purpose.

Feel an immediate sense of stillness and rejuvenation as you step onto the sanctuary at Samasati Nature Retreat Center, located in the hills above the fishing village of Puerto Viejo. With incredible views of the Caribbean Ocean and over 250 acres of pristine Costa Rican rainforest, you will reconnect with your true essence of being a part of nature.

This well-curated, transformational retreat will leave you feeling renewed, allowing you to move through the world with a greater sense of knowing your purpose and the power you hold.

The Place & Journey

Enjoy your stay at Samasati Nature Retreat Center, a 250-acre sanctuary offering inspiration amidst the pristine Costa Rican rainforest on the unspoiled Caribbean side of the country. While you enjoy nature’s healing embrace, you’ll also enjoy all the comfort and conveniences of a modern retreat designed to maximize your serenity, peace, and connection to nature and to your deeper self.

Each day will begin with an exploration of meditation and yoga practices at one of the two breathtaking yoga shalas.  After breakfast and some personal time, we will gather for a Dharma Talk offering time to reconnect with your body, heart, and the landscape.  Throughout the week, we’ll build progressively the study of Jnana Yoga, which emphasizes the "path of knowledge" also known as the "path of self-realization".

Each afternoon there will be ample free time, along with various excursions and workshops, fostering a sense of stillness while immersing yourself in this transformative week.

The Esperanza Retreat is a blend of meditation, movement, connection, and vacation.  The pace is slow and the practices are invitational.  This could be a good fit for both new and well seasoned to these practices.  Yes, it could be great for your partner or dear friend to join along.

I continue to try my best to create inclusive spaces, so I welcome people of diverse backgrounds in terms of gender, race, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, and other forms of diversity.

Forest Bathing” (“Shinrin-Yoku”)

Developed in Japan in the 1980s, Shinrin-yoku is a preventative healthcare and wellness practice that literally means “taking in the forest atmosphere” or “forest bathing.” And what better place to enjoy the restorative benefits of Shinrin-yoku than in the 250 acres of primary rainforest that surround Samasati?

Japanese and Korean researchers have produced an impressive body of research that scientifically proves the benefits of immersively walking in nature, which include boosting your immune system, lowering your blood pressure, diminishing your stress levels and improving your overall mental health. And it’s not just about the fitness benefits of walking – trees release phytoncides, which are airborne antimicrobial chemicals that help protect them and surrounding, supportive plants against germs and insects. This benefit extends to humans, as research shows inhaling phytoncides lowers stress hormones and supports natural killer cell activity. You can enjoy this holistic anti-aging practice every day during your stay at Samasati.
