About your trip

For ski touring and splitboarding lovers drawn to snowy summits, secluded fjords and the wild balance of mountain and marine adventure—this is your way into the untouched Arctic. Our small group size keeps each journey personal, so it’s best to book early.

Chase the best snow at the edge of the world—where remote islands, soaring peaks and deep fjords meet the icy Arctic Ocean. Traveling aboard Moondance, a 56-foot expedition sailboat, you’ll explore untouched backcountry terrain each day by ski or splitboard. From mellow bowls to steep couloirs, Finnmark delivers world-class runs for both experienced skiers & boarders and strong intermediates. At 70° north, Finnmark is the last stretch of true alpine terrain before the land tapers into the North Cape. With Moondance as your floating basecamp and an IFMGA-certified guide leading the way, you’ll spend the week immersed in Arctic wilderness—soaking in some of the most awe-inspiring views Norway has to offer.

Highlights Include

Live aboard Moondance, a true expedition sailing boat designed for Arctic conditions.

Hike up and carve through pristine, untouched mountain terrain, with routes for confident intermediates and seasoned skiers.

Make your own tracks daily—traverse vast slopes with few, if any, other skiers or splitboarders.

Venture to remote islands where towering cliffs meet quiet fjords—and traces of Norse and Sámi history shape the landscape.

Travel with the best: an IFMGA-certified guide who knows the terrain inside and out, balancing safety with deep local insight.

Activity Levels

Our trips are immersive and hands-on, created to help you connect with nature and push your boundaries. Feel free to move at your own pace, but prepare for an active outdoor experience.

You’ll navigate Arctic fjords by sea and ski through remote, rugged mountain slopes—climbing up and riding down on skis or splitboard. This trip is best suited for agile boarders eager to explore Norway’s wild landscapes, the Finnmark way.

• Average day: We’ll ascend and descend around 1,000-1,500 vertical meters (3,280-4,921 feet), spending four to six hours on the mountain. Our expert guide will tailor each route to match group experience and conditions.

• Challenge day: If the snow, weather and group align, we’ll take on steeper, longer routes—pushing further into the wild. It’s not tied to a fixed day but always on the radar.

Climate Conditions

• Weather: Daytime highs hover around 0.3°C (32.5°F) and nighttime lows near -2°C (28.4°F). Expect partly cloudy skies with snowfall averaging 66 centimeters (26 inches).

Day 1 (April 12)

Day 1 (April 12) image

Arrive in Alta and settle into Øksfjord

After your early afternoon arrival, we’ll drive two hours (depending on weather conditions) north to Øksfjord. As we travel along the inner coastline, you’ll get your first glimpse of Norway’s pristine Arctic waters—a small preview of the adventure ahead. Once there, we’ll settle into a cosy bed and breakfast before meeting our guides and the Moondance crew. In the evening, we’ll share drinks and gather for a welcome dinner to kick off our journey.

Day 2 (April 13)

Day 2 (April 13) image

Sail into the fjord and summit on skis

We’ll start our day with breakfast, then head down to Moondance—our expedition sailing boat and home for the week. On board, we’ll get to know the vessel and the crew during a safety briefing before we set course across the fjord to Tverrfjorddalen. Once anchored, a zodiac (a motor-powered inflatable boat) will take us ashore for your first skiing and splitboarding tour in a stunning glacial valley, celebrated for its deep snow and dramatic terrain.

We’ll have some time to explore the land after lunch, but as the day winds down, we’ll sail onward. If the weather’s in our favour, your guide may suggest a glacier crossing of Øksfjordjøkelen, with a thrilling descent into Nuvsfjorden, where Moondance will meet us—giving us a taste of what the region has to offer.

Days 3-6 (April 14-17)

Ullsfjord, Nuvsvåg, Stjernøya, Frakkfjord and Elliassen are just a few of the legendary fjords that might shape our route.

If you enjoy maps and navigation, join your guides and the ship crew for route-planning sessions in the mornings and evenings. These are open to all—feel free to ask questions and get a behind-the-scenes look at how we craft the perfect day, on sea and snow.

Day 7 (April 18)
