ravel is always better when you get an in-depth cultural experience. Meet Thubten, a former monk who has studied in the Tengboche Monastery. Tengboche Monastery is one of the main monasteries in the Khumbu region; with many travelers and natives traveling this path on their way to Everest, it is also one of the most popular monasteries with an amazing view of white snow-capped mountains with the chilling fresh air of the Himalayas all around. Imagine getting this immense sherpa cultural and religious information as you hike to Everest Base Camp, it will feel like an Everest Buddhist pilgrimage trek. We are so excited to share with you this special trip to Everest Base camp with Thubten Yeshe Sherpa.
Thubten is a former Buddhist monk who lived at 11,500 feet in Namche Bazaar, Nepal, and his father, Ila Tsering Sherpa, was a member of the 1963 American Everest Expedition. Since 1999, Thubten has led many Everest Base Camp trips for REI Adventures until REI decided to halt international travel. He also won the REI Adventures top guide award back in 2005. Being a former Buddhist monk, he is also a great thanka artist.
