Welcome to Santa Fe! Plan your travel to arrive by mid-afternoon. Check into Piñon Court by La Fonda Hotel. This charming boutique hotel blends classic Southwestern charm with a modern, laid-back vibe.
We meet in the hotel lobby and head to Auberge Bishop’s Lodge Resort. A site that bridges old and new, we step into the original 1870's chapel built by Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy, and enjoy an insiders take on the local Santa Fe art scene from curator Bobby Beals at his onsite gallery. We head to Jodi Morris’ stunning home on land that was part of the original Bishop’s Lodge. We sip some of New Mexico’s lovely Gruet sparkling wine and enjoy a casual dinner while taking in our first famed New Mexico sunset.
Enjoy complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Then grab your walking shoes and water bottle and meet in the hotel lobby. On a three-hour (2+ mile) walking tour through the Santa Fe Historic District, we explore New Mexican architecture—Pueblo, Spanish Territorial and Northern New Mexican—and learn about some of the esteemed women in Santa Fe history.
We end on Canyon Road and enjoy lunch in the beautiful Ahmyo Wine Garden. Afterward, we meet some extraordinary women art leaders—artist Donna Fleetwood whose work is shared in the Susan Eddings Perez Gallery and Karla Winterowd.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon wandering on Canyon Road or the Santa Fe Plaza. We reconvene for dinner at La Plazuela at the historic La Fonda Hotel. Claudia will lead art tours.
South of Santa Fe is the Turquoise Trail—a collection of former mining towns on a scenic byway. We visit artist Kevin Box to view OrigamiintheGarden at Box Studio & Sculpture Garden in New Mexico before heading to the funky town of Madrid. Explore and shop, and enjoy lunch on your own.
We head back to Santa Fe and head to MeowWolf, an interactive and immersive art and entertainment hub. Started by young do-it-yourself artists in Santa Fe and funded by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, we play in their flagship exhibit House of Eternal Return.
Afterward, we enjoy dinner at Southwestern meets Mexican favorite, Escondido. Chef Fernando Ruiz has an incredible story and is a three-time Food Network Champion, even famously beating famed Bobby Flay.
Enjoy complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Today we explore classic Santa Fe—from Native American art to Georgia O’Keeffe.
We begin with a private tour at the SAR’s Indian Arts Research Center, housing an outstanding collection of Native American art—pottery, jewelry, textiles, paintings, and basketry—from globally recognized native artists including Lucy Lewis and Maria Martinez. It’s an up-close look into one of the world’s finest art collections.
Afterward, we visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, learning about the progression in Georgia’s art from her early days back East to the influence of the West on her later works. You will meld your experiences here with our visit to Ghost Ranch and Abiquiú the next day.
The rest of day is yours to explore. Find a quaint place for lunch. Explore the Santa Fe Plaza and many stores. Visit fascinating museums or the historic churches. Jodi is happy to provide ideas based on your interests. There is so much to enjoy in the oldest capital in the United States!
We suggest you enjoy world-class contemporary art at the monthly Last Friday Art Walk (5-7:00pm) at the Santa Fe Railyard Arts District. Drop into SITE Santa Fe, Vladem Contemporary or local galleries.
Dinner is also on your own this evening. Enjoy a restaurant near the Railyard, the Santa Fe Plaza, or simply enjoy a quiet evening at your hotel.
Enjoy an early complimentary breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Today, we drive one hour north to Abiquiú to explore the fabulous Georgia O'Keeffe Home & Studio and Museum. Georgia's style is so famous that numerous books and cook books celebrate it.
Up the road, we visit Georgia’s summer home, a fabulous homestead property called Ghost Ranch. You'll be gob smacked by the beauty and soaring cliffs and distant mountains including the Pedernal which she took much inspiration from. We enjoy a casual lunch onsite enjoying our stunning surroundings. Should time allow, we make a fun stop or two near Abiquiú.
We end our day at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. Steeped in history and tradition, Ojo Caliente is one of the country’s oldest health spas. Tucked between rugged desert cliffs and a cottonwood-lined bosque, locally-fed hot spring pools await us.
We enjoy a special last night dinner at Ojo Caliente’s Artesian Restaurant. As we prepare to end our journey, we share what we saw, felt and experienced during our days together.
Enjoy complimentary breakfast at the resort. We encourage you to enjoy the morning with a hike, yoga or soaking in the mineral tubs. We will depart Ojo Caliente at 11:00am checkout and return to Santa Fe.
We recommend that you book flights no earlier than 2:00pm from Santa Fe (3:00pm and later if flying out of Albuquerque). Airport transfers are on your own. We recommend Groom Transportation, Uber or can refer a private driver. Alternatively, choose to extend your time in beautiful New Mexico.
