4 Dives + land tours + 4 nights accommodation
Join Blue Planet for this bucket-list trip to the land of fire and ice. We'll be diving some of the planet's most unique and amazing sites and touring through Iceland's spectacular landscape while learning about this special island. This is THE trip if you've been wanting to experience Iceland!
Iceland
Iceland is home to the largest glaciers in Europe, as well as some of the world's most active volcanoes. It is widely known as "The Land of Fire and Ice." It is also the land of light and darkness. Its location, just below the Arctic Circle, makes for long summer days with near 24-hours of sunlight; offset by short winter days with very little sunlight at all.
From the moss covered lava fields in the south, through the barren highlands in the center, to the soaring fjords in the north, Iceland will attest to the great diversity of landscape and light, taking new forms with every turn in the road and every changing season.
We will explore some of the most exciting sites the country has to offer in a long weekend, including diving, hiking and more. This tour includes:
Silfra
If you’ve thought about diving in Iceland, Silfra has likely been at the top of your list! Considered one of the best freshwater sites in the world, Silfra is an otherworldly scene located in the lava field directly on top of the continental rift valley between America and Europe. Glacier water -- filtered through the lava field on its 50 years long journey to the fissure -- is so clear that the visibility is about 100 meters. Swimming between two continents feels like gliding through air.
Golden Circle
The Golden Circle consists of three of the most popular tourist sites in Iceland; Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park, Geysir hot spring area and Gullfoss waterfall. Visit Þingvellir, site of one of the oldest democratic parliaments in the world. Marvel at the unique geology; here the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates have been slowly moving apart creating a rift valley. Visit the renowned hot spring area around Geysir; stand well back and watch Strokkur erupt. Enjoy the sheer power and majesty of Gullfoss, listed in the top ten by World of Waterfalls.
Lake Kleifvarvatn
Dive in a freshwater bubbling crater! Kleifarvatn is quite unusual: it doesn’t have surface water entering or leaving the lake and no rivers in or out. Instead, all of the water enters and leaves from the ground. The bottom of this lake looks alive -- you'll see bubbling craters and vibrating rocks as you dive. This is a truly unique and beautiful site surrounded by red volcanic mountains and geothermal hot springs.
Secret Lagoon
The Secret Lagoon is located in the small village of Flúðir in the heart of an area with high geothermal activity. The landscape around the pool is very natural, the steam rising from the water gives everything a surreal and mystical feel. The thermal pool is maintained at a constant temperature of 38/40 C – lovely to experience at any time of year. Little pathways, geothermal hot spots and a small geyser, which erupts around every five minutes, are added attractions adjacent to the pool.
Solheimajokull Glacier
Solheimajokull glacier has a wealth of dramatic ice formations including crevasses, rugged ridges and sinkholes. Sólheimajökull is a glacier tongue or outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, the 4th largest glacier in Iceland, which has the mighty and feared Katla Volcano lurking ominously beneath its ice cap. Learn about the unique world of the glacier from glacier specialists while we hike across its face.
Other Activities
We also can visit the famous Blue Lagoon and check out the Gjábakkahellir lava tube. You are welcome to extend your trip as long as you'd like -- we're happy to help out with logistics.
