About this trip

In Tokyo we visit shrines, temples, and shopping centers; learn a traditional craft; watch a fun puppet show; and hang out with a group of Japanese English teachers. In the spa town of Hakone, we travel by train, cable car, funicular, and ‘pirate’ ship; see glittering crystal trees at the Venetian glass museum; wear yukata (traditional cotton kimonos) while eating a delicious kaiseki dinner; walk among the whimsical sculptures of the Open-Air Museum; and soak in the milky waters of a natural hot spring. In Kyoto, we learn first-hand how to wear a kimono; visit Kiyumisu temple; and stroll through thousands of scarlet Torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine. In Hiroshima, we pay our respects at the Peace Park and Museum. We also visit nearby Miajima Island where we ride a cable car up Mt. Misen for the glorious views; meet the local deer and take selfies with the famous Floating Tori Gate. In Osaka, we have a hands-on cooking class with a French chef; sample the Osaka night life in the exciting Namba district; and find out why it’s the ‘Kitchen of Japan’. We eat plenty of delicious food and get to know lots of fun ladies, both locals and ex-pats.

Arrival in Tokyo

If you are on the group flight, it will arrive at Haneda Airport in the late afternoon where you will be picked up and driven directly to our hotel in Tokyo.  The English-speaking driver of the private van will be holding a ‘Women Sharing Cultures’ sign.  After you check in and have a chance to freshen up, we walk the short distance to a nearby restaurant for dinner. If you are not on the group flight, you will make your own way to the hotel (although I will be available to help).
Meal included: dinner.

I’m Sheila Stone and I love travel so much that I started a tour company when I was 60. (Have I mentioned that I’m also a late bloomer?) I create and lead small groups of women to interesting places like London, Scotland, Ireland & Japan. I have some tours in The States too. In addition to the usual sightseeing, my tours give women an opportunity to meet local women. By staying in small hotels and eating at family restaurants as much as possible, our travel money stays in the communities we visit. A fun way to meet like-minded women!

The Christmas Holiday Tea in Santa Monica was wonderful. Sheila always organizes great events. We all had fun getting to make new friends!

The Wild About Harry Tour was amazing! My kids and I had a fantastic time. Sheila was great in making sure we saw as much of Harry Potter that London and Oxford have to offer, and she was also helpful in getting us to see the cities and planning our side trip to Paris. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we will never forget, and we talk about constantly. Thank you!

Thoroughly enjoyed my Bayou trip with tour host Sheila and local host Andrina. Great mix of fun sights including Mardi Gras museum, local food, shopping, bars and music in NOLA. A powerful Whitney plantation visit. Andrina hosted a traditional crawfish boil and an amazing get together with women of the local area representing the various cultures of the region. Felt like visiting with friends and family. Highly recommend this trip! Sheila is a great guide and trip planner.
