Welcome to our fourth year of Open Invite Family Camps! This year, we’ll open a new week in a new location: SCOTLAND. Join us as we have our first week in one of the prettiest corners of the country. This is a location that we know well and love with our own family. We are excited to share it with yours!
This is typically dinner
If we have arranged it for the group, all you need to do is show up!
Admission when visiting places as a group will be provided for all participants. This will include: Edinburgh Castle, Holyroodhouse Palace, Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, & Puffin Boat Excursion!
There will be extras along the way that we will provide
We will take care of the planning- you just show up and be ready to have fun! Once you’re here, we can help answer questions and do our best to make the week as comfortable as possible.
Meet us in Edinburgh and the fun will start then!
Each family will have their own during the week. This works great for every family to have their own space at their own pace
We like good food, and we know what kids like to eat, too!
Want food for your own house? We can point you to the nearest supermarket
During free time, you’re free to make plans as you like. We are happy to give advice!
All the William Wallace tartan and Harry Potter wands will be yours for the finding.
Today, we will meet just outside of Edinburgh. (Be ready with your rental car!) From here, we will depart for our resort and settle in. The drive is approximately 1 hour.
Everyone arrives to the resort and settles in. Each family will have their own modern house, but will be really close to others. Enjoy a home-away-from-home here for your family. The resort has several family facilities, such as a children’s play area, on-site spa, bar and cafe.
If you’d like to get some groceries for your house, there is a large grocery store on the outskirts of the village nearby. You’ll find everything you need from carrots to milk to toilet paper… and more!
This evening , we will relax with a welcome dinner on-site. We’ll eat dinner, we’ll settle in… and when we can’t keep our eyes open any longer, we’ll head off to our houses for an easy night of sleep!
This morning, we’ll have fresh pastries for everyone who wants them! Bring a cup of coffee, grab some pastries and stay for a chat. Children can enjoy an optional play session in the Children’s Barn on-site. (Drop off from ages 5+).
We’ll soon head out to North Berwick for a day out in the cute seaside town.
Enjoy a puffin-hunt via boat out to Bass Rock from the pier. This famous rock is a destination of many puffins in June and July, so we’ll go to visit them in their holiday home in Scotland!
Today, we’ll enjoy lunch in North Berwick together with a group meal to end our morning out on the boats.
Enjoy the afternoon and evening on your own (or with new friends) in North Berwick. We’ll provide some suggestions of some of our favourite places- and the best gelato spot in town! You can also bring a picnic to the beach, if the weather is nice and head to the pier to do some crabbing before the day is finished.
This morning, we’ll have a 1h25 drive to Stirling. We’ll first visit the Stirling Castle- an amazing example of medieval architecture with much of daily life still on display.
Enjoy a group lunch at a pub today. We’ll have time to sit and relax a bit over food before we head to our next stop- The Wallace Monument.
For our visit at the Wallace Monument, each family will have a timed entry to enjoy this monument, as the stairwells inside can only accommodate set amounts throughout the day. The views of the valley below are stunning and you’ll be able to see William Wallace’s massive sword up close on display.
This afternoon, take a bit of time to wander the high street in Stirling. This small Scottish town offers a good glimpse into normal life for Scots- you’ll find cheery pubs, happy friends chatting over tea and cakes, charity shops with trinkets and treasures and little independent book stores with lots of character.
In the evening, make your way back to North Berwick on your own time. Dinner will be on your own tonight.
Please expect: moms will be playing mahjong, kids will be exploring and dads will be sitting around over drinks at some point this evening. These are the margins of the day we love to offer for the magic of Family Camp to bloom.
Today, we’ll head out to Edinburgh via train from North Berwick. This easy train journey will give you a proper British train experience!
On arrival to Edinburgh’s main station, we’ll head to the Edinburgh Castle where we’ll have entry to explore the medieval fortress. You’ll be able to see the Scottish Crown Jewels, Mon’s Meg and St Margarets Chapel. Enjoy seeing the fortress at an easy pace with kids- enough time to see it all without feeling stressed.
For lunch, we’ll head to one of our favourite spots along the Royal Mile- a place we have enjoyed for years!
This afternoon, you’ll have a few options of how to spend your time:
Reserved ticketed entry to Holyroodhouse Palace, the official working palace of the monarch in Scotland. (Imagine a Scottish Buckingham Palace.)
Prebooked tickets for Mary Kings Close, a step back into time to see how life along the Royal Mile really looked a few hundred years ago
Hike up Arthurs Seat to see the sweeping views of the city below and the estuary separating the city from Fife
You’ll have the evening to enjoy on your own, so we recommend you exploring New Town to see the Georgian architecture… and find some of the best food in Edinburgh!
When you’re finished- come back to North Berwick on your own time on the train. You’ll have a ticket that is for an open return to allow for your preference.
This morning, wake up to pastries on site and then let’s hit the road for our longest drive of the week- St. Andrews! (We promise, it’s worth the drive.)
On arrival to St. Andrews, enjoy some free time to shop and wander this tiny university town along the coast. It’s not only the birthplace of golf, but the home to Will & Kate’s romance as young students. You’ll find cliffside Abbey ruins, a massive beach for wandering, a historic golf course and lots of tiny cute shops.
Today, we’ll enjoy lunch together at one of our favourite spots in St. Andrews. Scottish restauranteurs are proud that much of their food comes from locally-sourced ingredients, and many of the places in St. Andrews are no different!
If you’re keen to try to get a tee time, there are a few courses that have good availability in St. Andrews. (While official tee times on the Old Course are nearly impossible to snag, the town has several fantastic courses that are much easier to get access to for the day.) We also recommend booking a spa treatment at the Old Course Hotel- it has a fantastic in-house spa!
Complete the photo scavenger hunt for your family and you’ll have earned a really delicious prize this afternoon!
This evening, make you way back to North Berwick at your leisure. For those who love Outlander, we recommend a pit stop in Falkland on the way home for a few set locations from Season One.
This morning, breakfast is on your own at the resort or you’re welcome to come grab fresh pastries for your family.
We’ll enjoy during the morning to play and relax this morning. Children can enjoy a play session in the Children’s Barn while parents relax nearby over coffee.
In the late morning, we’ll head out to the nearby coast for a day out along the stunning shores of North Berwick. These beaches have stunning coastlines and- hopefully- will be a fun place to enjoy some Scottish sunshine.
*Please note: Should weather be bad, we will offer an alternate option for this day.
Enjoy some time for kids to dig in the sand, play ball and parents chat along the sand. Bring a picnic to nibble on during the day out!
This evening, we will have a final farewell dinner & Highland Games to celebrate our week together. Bring your best family effort for some very (non serious) competition.
To end our week, we’ll spend the evening with a relaxed night of packing, hanging out and enjoy our last bit of Scottish summertime together.
This morning, enjoy a leisurely morning here with everyone before people start leaving for their next adventure.
Come for one last coffee in the garden as you pack up your bags for pastries, hugs goodbye and to make plans for next summer.
*Late check-outs are available upon request. Please ask our team for help, if you require one for your family.
