Experience South Africa’s culture, community, and conservation on an adventurous family volunteering holiday. Set on a farm amongst the Outeniqua Mountains your family will learn about conservation, and engage with the local community while being fully immersed in nature.
As a family, you will stay in a wildlife sanctuary that provides a haven for predators free from poaching and exploitation. There will be plenty to do daily which includes the care for the rescued cats by preparing and feeding them, cleaning their enclosures, and general farm work. You will explore the farm identify plant species, assist in the vegetable garden, and connect with smaller community projects in the area.
The friendly staff will engage kids and adults with activities that will bust their boredom, with a variety of opportunities to build, play, camp, and prepare meals while learning all about nature and all its creatures.

Welcome to the most beautiful city in the world. Your will be collected by private transfer to start your journey to the farm. It is about 5 hours away but there will be a stop to refresh along the way.
If you have opted for a hired vehicle, you can pick it up from the airport.
Once you arrive at the wildlife sanctuary, your room will be assigned, and a briefing session will follow. The camp curator will discuss all safety protocols regarding the farm and the predators.
Dinner will be served at the main farmhouse.
Rise and shine! After breakfast work starts at 8 am. After a brief information session about the predators, daily duties will start. As a family, you will help clean the night shelters, refill the water troughs, clean around the camp, and prepare food for the predators.
Lunch & Relax
Afternoon sessions are made enjoyable as you learn about predators' species and their behaviour.
Throughout the week, there are a few educational excursions planned which include a visit to the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre and the Butterfly Centre.
In the evenings, meals are prepared on an open fire and you will enjoy a South African braai (barbeque) around the Boma area. A boma is a sheltered outside area where you get together to enjoy meals and entertainment.
There is plenty to do in your downtime. Kids will be kept busy by the team as they explore the farm. There is a range of fun activities such as hiking to the bushman paintings, movies under the stars, and cooking every night on an open fire.
As a family, you will learn more about South African culture.
Volunteers will have a day to go into the community and help a longstanding non-profit organization serve meals. More than 2500 people are fed and you will experience the joy of sharing soup and other meals with them.
After an exciting, fun, and educational week, the team will 'say goodbye' and thank you for the difference you have made as a family by volunteering. We contribute up to 5% to the sanctuary's work and are grateful that you have contributed towards the caring and well-being of the predators.
Your volunteering has gone beyond just the animals but also towards the farm school's and local community's sustainability.
