      About this trip

Enjoy an early lunch in Pawley's Island, South Carolina along with a "fashion walk" offered by Affordable Apparels.  Models will stroll past our tables wearing an incredible selection of handpicked apparel and accessories from Affordable Apparels.  Since it’s opening in 2012,  Affordables, as it is more commonly called, has prided itself in offering “Real Women, Real Style” at affordable prices.  Following lunch, we will have the opportunity to shop at Affordables as well as 20 additional shops found in the Hammock Shops Village.   A real treat is a stop at Conway Glass on the way home.  Conway Glass is a destination blown and stained glass studio that also houses a fiber studio and dye studio in the historic Mayfair neighborhood of Conway.  Our visit includes a glass blowing demonstration and opportunity to learn about the many art classes offered before returning to St. James.

      Special discounts!

During the Fashion Walk, we receive a 20% discount coupon to use at "Affordables".  The owner of Island Shoes has said that she will also surprise us with a special offering!

Fashion & Fun in the Low Country

8:30am - Depart St. James Plantation from the Members Club Lower Parking lot

Travel south of Myrtle Beach to Pawley's Island and arrive for an early lunch at Bistro 217 at approximately 11am.

Following the lunch and "fashion walk" we drive across the street to the Hammock Shops.  Twenty shops are situated in Low Country style bungalows amidst live oak trees.  Enjoy shopping in boutiques, home accessory shops, a Christmas shop, a candle shop and more!

2pm - Depart Pawley's Island and travel north to the scenic Waccamaw River town of Conway for a visit to the Conway Glass Studio.  Perhaps you have seen the fabulous work of Owner's Ed and Barbara Streeter?  This past year they were featured at Brookgreen Gardens during the Night of a Thousand Candles event.  We are treated to a one hour demonstration and then you also have time to view Barbara's unique yarn and dye work.

4:30pm - Depart Conway for St. James with an estimated arrival time of 6pm

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Fantastic day with excellent speakers/docents. Very educational experience at this lovely property. Food was excellent, I enjoyed the owner explaining how they came about owning the Plantation and the organizers did an excellent job keeping all participants safe, hydrated and on time with various stops. Worth every penny!

Had a wonderful time! Loved the 2 Trips with Patty that I’ve done But it would have been nicer to spend more time in the house - upstairs and the basement. The tour guides seemed to truncate and simplify the information. It would have been better if the tour guides knew that this particular group, the St. James Vintage Ladies, were all college educated women who all love and are well versed in history. For this reason I don’t think I got the full value of the price. The lunch was fantastic! The food as well as the serving staff were wonderful. Thanks for all you do, Patty and crew!
