We are going back to Iceland -- this time to the Golden Circle-- to chase northern lights, and experience all of the delights of the volcanic wonderland that is Iceland. This trip includes 7 nights split between Reykjavik and Nesjavellir, offering both city exploration and rugged Icelandic adventure.
We are planning on soaking in some of Iceland's famous hot springs-- and soaking under the Northern lights. If karma is kind, hopefully we can soak in the hot springs WHILE we soak up the northern lights.
The first three nights, we will stay at Ion City a luxury hotel in the heart of Reykjavik. Explore the famous rainbow road, visit Hallgrímskirkja, one of Iceland's most famous landmarks, dine, and shop in the Capital of Iceland.
Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran (Church of Iceland) parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 metres (244 ft) tall, it is the largest church in Iceland.
Less than an hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Reykjavík and set against a backdrop of majestic mountainous lava fields, our home base at Ion Adventure Hotel on Mount Hengill will be an unforgettable experience.
Whether you are seeking a quiet, soulful soak beneath the Northern Lights, a challenging trek across an ancient glacier or a day of fly-fishing in plentiful icy rivers – at ION Adventure Hotel, these are only a wish away.
Our location by the “Golden Circle” route makes it the perfect base from which to explore Iceland’s rich heritage, hardy flora and fauna, and myriad opportunities for extreme adventure.
Close to Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), it provides easy access to all the essential attractions of “the land of fire and ice”.
And you know they will take good care of you upon your return after a day of adventures. The rooms, magnificent Restaurant, award-winning Northern Lights bar, the awesome Lava Spa and the magnificent landscape that stretches out to the horizon wherever you look provides calm and good service so you can recharge, reflect and rejoice.

Get ready for an exhilarating journey through Iceland's iconic Golden Circle, featuring an unforgettable snowmobile adventure on the Langjökull glacier.
Our adventure kicks off at Þingvellir, home to the world's oldest parliament since 930 AD, nestled within the Þingvellir National Park. Here, we'll amble through the breathtaking Almannagjá gorge, which marks the meeting point of the North American Plate's eastern boundary and witness the awe-inspiring Öxarárfoss waterfall.
Our route then leads us past the picturesque Lake Laugarvatn en route to Haukadalur valley. This geothermal wonderland boasts renowned hot springs like Geysir and Strokkur, where you're guaranteed a front-row seat to their impressive displays. Keep your eyes peeled for Strokkur's eruptions, erupting every 6-10 minutes, shooting an astonishing 20 meters into the air.
Just a stone's throw from Geysir, the majestic Gullfoss waterfall awaits. Known as Iceland's most famous waterfall, it's a sight that never fails to captivate.
The adventure culminates at Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier, where you'll gear up in a snug winter overall and a safety helmet. Our certified snowmobile guide will walk you through all the essential safety instructions before we rev up for an exhilarating hour-long ride on the glacier.
The convoy of snowmobiles sets off in a single file, dashing across the glacier. Langjökull runs roughly parallel to Iceland's active volcanic zone, creating a unique and dynamic landscape. Beneath the glacier lie two or more volcanic systems, adding to the area's geological intrigue. Keep an eye out for the striking peaks of Mt. Skriðufell and Jarlhettur, fondly known as "The Earl’s Hat.
The tour takes you to Gígjökull glacier, which is an outlet glacier from the notorious Eyjafjallajökull glacier that erupted in 2010. The eruption melted a large amount of ice causing millions of liters of melted ice to flood the area as the water made its way to the Atlantic. You are sure to be in for some super jeep action, as you splash through rivers, so make sure the seatbelt are tight for this part of the drive!
Seljalandsfoss, a stunning waterfall that drops 60 meters and originates from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. If you are feeling adventurous you can walk behind the waterfall and enjoy the scenery from there.
Now it’s time to head up to a hidden canyon where we will find the spectacularly beautiful waterfall Gljúfrabúi. After seeing this hidden gem we take off on a drive through some places that were covered by ashfall in the 2010 eruption and are only accessible by modified vehicles. It goes without saying, that we will be crossing more rivers along the way to get the best possible view of the eruption site.
Finally, we take you along the black Atlantic Ocean beaches as we head to our last stop of the day, Skógarfoss waterfall. Skógarfoss is one of the country’s biggest waterfalls, with a width of 25 meters , and the spray from the waterfall produces a single, or even double, rainbow on a sunny day.
Prepare for an awe-inspiring celestial dance, as we embark on an epic quest to witness the elusive Aurora Borealis. While we can't guarantee the appearance of this natural wonder, what we can assure you is an unyielding determination to chase it down. In our previous expedition, we were graced with three consecutive nights of the Northern Lights, painting the Arctic skies with their ethereal glow. As yogis, we like to think our good karma plays a role in these magical encounters. So, let's set forth on this celestial adventure, ready to capture the very essence of the Arctic night!
