Your arrival to Zagreb Pleso Airport should be between 12:00 and 14:00. You will be taken to one of Zagreb´s five star downtown hotels within walking distance of all the sights. After a little time to refresh, we will meet our guide Iva, who will share captivating and fairytale like stories about Zagreb through the ages, during our walking tour of the upper and lower town. After the tour you will be directed to some wonderful places for dinner and a nightcap.
Today we will travel through "Zagorije" Croatia´s Hinterland of rolling hills and magical Castles. First visit is Trakoscan Castle, built during the Austro-Hungarian times to house a Croatian Aristocratic Family. After the castle visit, we will meander down to a town called Krapina, where the Cro-Magnum Neanderthal Museum is housed. This is a beautiful, educational museum, built into a hill, an architectural stunner full of intriguing composition. Finally we will arrive to our final destination of the day Vuglec Breg where we will begin with a tour and wine tasting followed by a traditional Croatian dinner of the region. We will stay here for the night.
Day three brings us to neighboring Slovenia, where we will first visit captivating Lake Bled. The lake is just a few hours from Zagreb situated in the Julian Alps. We will have a guided tour of the lake. Later we will go to Slovenia´s picturesque and historic capital Ljubljana. Ljubljana, one of Europe´s smallest capitals is captivatingly beautiful clean and serene. We will check into our hotel before wondering about.
Starting our to Postojna Jama, which is one of Europe´s best preserved and walkable cave systems. At the mouth of the cave is a beautiful castle built into the mountain. After an "indepth" educational visit to Postojna, we will get a little taste of Friuli - Venezia Giulia. In Trieste, we will have a nice lunch showcasing the regions food and wine. After lunch a little walk in this fascinating city we will skip over to Croatia´s Istria region where we will stay the next three nights in a medieval village called Svetvincenat. This village´s central location in Istria allows us to stay relaxed in one hotel while geographically allowing us to explore the whole of Istria. On arrival to the hotel, we will be treated with a little local wine and local delicacies.
Food, Wine, Olive Oil, Culture and Medieval Towns sums up the day.
We start the day with a famous fresco painting called " Dancing with Death" located in a hidden Roman Catholic Church created during the times of the plague. After this we get the rare experience of going on a truffle hunt with a family that has practiced truffle hunting since the 1950´s. We will use dogs during the 1 to 2 hour hunt in the forest. Lunch on the premises consisting of your catch follows. A wine tasting at the beautiful ultra modern vineyard of Tomaz follows. Here you will taste local wines and Olive Oil. Strolling through captivating Medieval Motovun and Grozdnjan villages follows. Finale of the Day is a private dinner event.
This morning will be spent walking around Rovinj, a town built during the Venetian Empire and second city to Venice. During Napoleonic times, like most walled cities of that time, the walls were taken down, to let in a breeze and make the towns less suffocating. Our chartered boat will pick us up here for the rest of the day, taking us down the coast to another Istrian village of Fazana, and then a visit to Brijuni island national park. The boat will drop us off at the end of Lim Canal for a beautiful Croatian Seafood dinner.
Opatija was the first Austro-Hungarian beach resorts on the sea. We will explore this beautiful city´s architecture, parks, monuments and fountains just outside of Croatia´s third largest city. From here we will enter the countries Kvarner region and pop over to one island before going south along the panoramic Adriatic Coastal Road. From here we will head to Grabovac Plitvice, where we will stay the next two nights. You can choose accommodation in a tree house or lake house. We will have a authentic regional dinner at a nearby restaurant.
The whole day at Plitvice. Croatia´s first UNESCO Heritage National Park. Named a national park in 1949, Plitvice comprises 16 lakes all connected by waterfalls. There are beautiful walkways along and over the water and lakes offering spectacular views. Today you will definitely hit your goal in steps as we leisurely stroll over 10km of trails. The trails are a combination of wooden trails over the lakes, dirt trails through the forests and a few boat trips offering connections. We have a picnic lunch waiting for us on the way. A traditional Croatian "peka" dinner awaits us at the black house after a full day of activities.
Rastoke is a picture perfect mill town located among many waterfalls that once powered the the village and turned the many mills that turned this area very prosperous. This village is the perfect stop for a glass of wine or a coffee, followed by a small hike along the trails. Afterwards we will go on to Zagreb where we started. You will have your much deserved free time this afternoon to explore some of Zagrebs quirky and one of a kind museums, shop, explore, or just people watch. We will have a farewell dinner tonight to celebrate our trip and new friendships.
After breakfast at our awesome hotel, we take you to the airport where you will take home great memories of your trip, or you will continue on the post tour of Dubrovnik and South Croatia ( 4 days )
