Exploring Brijuni National Park and the Coast of Istria

This morning will be spent walking around Rovinj, a town built during the Venetian Empire and second city to Venice.   During Napoleonic times, like most walled cities of that time, the walls were taken down, to let in a breeze and make the towns less suffocating.  Our chartered boat will pick us up here for the rest of the day, taking us down the coast to another Istrian village of Fazana, and then a visit to Brijuni island national park.  The boat will drop us off at the end of Lim Canal for a beautiful Croatian Seafood dinner.

Opatija was the first Austro-Hungarian beach resorts on the sea.    We will explore this beautiful city´s architecture, parks, monuments and fountains just outside of Croatia´s third largest city.  From here we will enter the countries Kvarner region and pop over to one island before going south along the panoramic Adriatic Coastal Road.  From here we will head to Grabovac Plitvice, where we will stay the next two nights.  You can choose accommodation in a tree house or lake house.   We will have a authentic regional dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Day 8 UNESCO Plitvice image

Exploring and strolling through the park

The whole day at Plitvice.   Croatia´s first UNESCO Heritage National Park.  Named a national park in 1949, Plitvice comprises 16 lakes all connected by waterfalls.   There are beautiful walkways along and over the water and lakes offering spectacular views.    Today you will definitely hit your goal in steps as we leisurely stroll over 10km of trails.   The trails are a combination of wooden trails over the lakes, dirt trails through the forests and a few boat trips offering connections.    We have a picnic lunch waiting for us on the way.   A traditional Croatian "peka" dinner awaits us at the black house after a full day of activities.

Day 9 Rastoke

Day 9 Rastoke image
