      About this trip

8 days/7 nights (7 nights in the Langhe, Piedmont)

Are you looking to discover the hidden culinary and wine delights Italy offers? If you are, then this is the tour for you!

Discover one of Italy's magical wine regions, Piedmont, which Italians call Piemonte. Although more and more people are hearing about Piedmont and coming to visit, the region remains quite undiscovered. In Piemonte, the rhythms of Italian life, uninterrupted by tourists, can be found everywhere: from the corner bar where the locals grab their daily café to the local festivals that almost always revolve around food and wine.

Piedmont is often referred to as ‘Tuscany without the tourists’. Piedmont’s undulating hills striped with vineyards bear more than a passing resemblance to its famous southern counterpart. Allow yourself to become enthralled by this picturesque region of dramatic hills wrapped with vineyards, orchards, hazelnut orchards that boast the finest quality of nuts in the world, medieval fortresses, and charming villages with terracotta rooftops. Delight in white truffles and wine tastings at premier winemakers. This area also produces most of the rice used throughout Europe and the Piemontesi claim to have taught the Swiss how to process chocolate into a tantalizing experience. Meet authentic local people, hard workers, very proud of their land and visit Torino (Turin) the aristocratic first capital of Italy and unexpectedly gorgeous city. Come discover the magic of Piedmont for yourself!

Fabulous time! Audrey planned our accommodations, our lift tickets and multi-faceted transportation. Everything happened without the slightest blip. Such a great time. If you ever have the chance to travel the areas that Audrey includes in her services, do not hesitate to take advantage of her expertise. She tailored our trip exactly as we requested. Thanks, Audrey, for an amazing trip! Gary and Neta

I have travelled with TravelsWithAudrey before and I must say, Audrey never disappoints. The accommodation was, as I prefer, a well-situated. clean, comfortable boutique hotel with great staff all around. Loved the group activities and appreciated the balance of independent time to get out and explore. But what I truly appreciated was not only being shown the most well-known areas of Venice but also many lesser-known areas. Despite having been in Venice twice before, it was on this trip I began to understand the people of this great city and the magnitude of their accomplishments so much more. Audrey took us to Murano and Burano and in passing, she pointed out an area that was like what the early settlers would have come upon. To then see what the Venetians built over the centuries, to understand why it was built up the way it was and to appreciate the challenges they faced gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation for what I was experiencing. I saw "mastery" of so many skills that had eluded me in the past. Audrey had many suggestions and insights she shared that allowed us to become familiar with this amazing city without the constant distractions of the crowds. For example, she encouraged us to get up at dawn and go to San Marco Square to take photographs of the people in costume. I had taken photos of people in costume walking the streets during the day, It wasn’t until I went at dawn that I experienced the “magic” of Carnival. Audrey had told us about those who rent costumes, those who spend the whole year working on making their costumes and how to spot the difference. To take photographs of people who take their costume making to a whole different level, against the foggy backdrop of the city was beyond words. Thank you, Audrey, for this culturally rich, eye opening view of Venice!

Awesome is the word I would use to describe our trip to Italy. My husband and I enjoyed a private 8-day tour of Piedmont with Audrey as our planner and guide. She did a superb job of getting to know our likes and desires, and transforming them into the trip of a lifetime. Audrey's expansive personal knowledge of the area enabled her to create a very personal and unique experience for us. We drank wine with winemakers, ate meat with the butcher, met the sheep from which our cheese was produced - - and the list goes on. Through her carefully curated and well-planned itinerary, we were able to gain a true appreciation of the area's culture, people, and cuisine. It was an outstannding experience and one I would highly recommend.

Audrey was amazing. She was so easy to work with and helped us plan an incredible 11 day trip. She asked great questions to determine what we wanted out of our trip and then proceeded to plan it. We got to spend some time independently exploring and some time with her chauffering, interpreting, touring, and finding us great opportunities. We wanted very much to get to know the people and culture of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Audrey helped us do that in this less busy part of Italy. We went to the mountains, the ocean, the valleys, the plains of this region. We met people who made balsamic vinegar, wine, prosciutto, cheese, grappa, and gubana. We even made/rolled gubana. And we got to taste/sample all those products. And we learned about the passion these people had for their products and their homeland. We ate great food and tasted wine and grappa, and other liquers. We even had a zoom meeting with Audrey's husband to help us understand the WW1 history of the area, and discussed Italian politics and culture and history. Audrey got us to a post office and a supermarket and we had a blast learning about these everyday life parts of being Italian. Finally, this was a first visit for us to a place where my husband's grandparents lived 100 years ago and left when they immigrated to America. Audrey figured out people who could help us track down important people and places in our family. We got to see the church where his grandparents were married and baptized, a bar owned by his family, 2 family houses, and even some cousins we never knew he had. And she kept at it after our amazing 7 hour family history day, making contacts with additional family members and making sure we touched base with them. She then planned a 2 day "snapshot" tour of Slovenia, from mountains to sea. Audrey is easy to get along with, not shy about sharing her opinions, but so well read, intelligent, global, and interesting, she is easy to be with and has a great sense of humor. The guides she arranged had excellent English, were fun and interesting and found a way to give us nuggets of information that was just the right amount. The lodgings were perfect: not super fancy, but just right for us, clean, convenient, friendly hosts; comfortable beds with great housekeeping and good air conditioning/heating. All of them had delicious, generous breakfasts served which often allowed us to eat only twice a day. We could have done this trip by ourselves, but it would have taken hours and hours of planning and we would in no way had the relaxation we had or the in depth experiences that allowed us to really participate in the world of the FVG region. We are excited to return. We would recommend Audrey whole heartedly and without reservation for the amazing trip she helped us experience.
