About this trip

WHAT A CLASSIC RIDE!

From Key Largo to Key West – come experience the islands...

The Keys have a uniquely relaxed culture and mindset. Leave behind your ordinary life for a few days and come unwind in the sunshine and salty sea breeze. Our introduction to the Florida Keys, on the first morning of the tour, is a glass bottom boat ride to America's only living coral reef at John Pennekamp State Park. We will bike right from their parking lot to start our tour of the Keys.

On our 100-mile ride we will cross 42 bridges including the famous 7 mile bridge.

We will have the opportunity to feed the pelicans at the Wild Bird center, see Humphrey Bogart’s boat the “African Queen”, visit the Hurricane memorial erected in memory of the 1935 hurricane that destroyed Mr. Flagler’s railroad, visit the Dolphin Research center, picnic in Bahia Honda St. Park, visit the Turtle Hospital and even stop in at the No Name Pub for a cold beer on its own No Name Key.

Then we arrive in the unique city of Key West. Here we spend two days at the luxurious Duvall House and you are on your own with the opportunity to visit the “Little White House”, President Truman’s vacation home; the Hemingway Home & Museum, sunset at Mallory Square (a must), or maybe a half day fishing or a snorkel trip or the full day trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park (make your own advance reservations). Whatever you do it will be a memorable time in the sun. Switch off your cell phone and don’t check your email; this change in latitude should definitely cause a change in attitude. This is 60% bike path and 40% road riding.

Excellent guides and an amazing travel experience. The GAP trail is spectacular. Consider providing the guides with some additional historical information about the trail, towns, areas. Special sites at particular mile markers would be really cool too. We loved all of our accommodations - especially the Smith House in Confluence. The Yoder House hosts and food were great. The rooms were dated and the mattress was old and uncomfortable. Thanks for another great Senior Cycling experience.

I had a wonderful time traveling the Great Allegheny Passage with Senior Cycling. Our leaders, Mike and Nick were fabulous. As a solo traveler, I was welcomed and made to feel part of group immediately. Hotels and B&B were all nice and I would stay again. Food was good and our single gluten-free rider felt like her needs were met. Special shout out to Chuck at Yoder Guest House who made a special trip to Flight 93 Memorial for a small group.

The cycling from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland is easy-grade, incredibly well-maintained rails to trails... with a beautiful downhill stretch the last 22 miles. Nature surrounds with woods, and the sound of waterfalls and the Monongahela, Youghiogheny and Casselman rivers running alongside for most of the distance. Senior Cycling provided great accommodations, comradery, at a reasonable price. The food was outstanding, and all of our hotels and bed & breakfasts had comfortable quarters with beautiful, often historic character. One of the best groups I've bike-toured with: kindness, laughter, and generosity at every turn. It was an amazing and wonderful trip.

What a beautiful area! The riding was wonderful, except for the day it was cold and raining. But the tour leaders came through and picked us up as soon as they could. Jack and Maer are great! There are so many extracurricular activities in the area it was hard to see them all. I will definitely consider this trip again in the future as there is so much to see and do. It is easy to understand why this is one of the top ten rail trails in the country. It is outstanding!

Everything was lovely, with comfortable and clean accommodations and knowledgeable and friendly guides. Food was good, ranging from local pizza to gourmet meals at delightful restaurants. While the weather wasn't cooperative (rained 3 out of 5 days), the Great Allegheny Passage trail was still stunningly beautiful. I would definitely ride the GAP again, and plan on checking out other Senior Cycling bike tours!
