Your Florida National Park adventure begins southwest of Miami, FL in the city of Homestead! Here you’ll have an opportunity to meet other members of the group before grabbing dinner in town and getting settled in our shared accommodations for the duration of the trip.
We’ll head to the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center near Homestead and complete several of the shorter hikes near the park entrance, including the Anhinga, Gumbo Limbo, Mahogany Hammock, Pa-Hay-Okee Overlook, and Pineland Trails, all of which are under a mile (each) in length. After lunch, we’ll check one of the best preserved relics of the Cold War in Florida, a historic Nike Hercules missile site called "Alpha Battery" or "HM69".
Today is the Tour de tours! In the morning, we’ll head to Everglades City which is where we’ll begin our private kayak tour. Over the next 3-4 hours, we’ll explore the Mangrove Tunnels, grass prairies, and the Great Cypress Forest of the Big Cypress National Preserve and Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve. These are the absolute BEST routes in the Everglades with no motorboat traffic, urban sprawl or development! Bring your camera because alligators, turtles, osprey, river otters, bald eagles and a variety of wading birds call this area of the Everglades home. It’s a calm, leisurely paddle in shallow waters that’s great for both first time and experienced kayakers alike.
There are no planned activities on our last day. We’ll have breakfast, pack up, and say our goodbyes before heading our respective ways. We hope you had an amazing time in two of Florida’s National Parks!
